Free insurance breast pump

Hello ladies! As a first time mom I'm learning about about a lot. I want to breastfeed my little one but know breast pumps can be expensive. I know insurances can cover a free breast pump and I wanted to hear your experience with asking for one. Is there a time frame when I can order one or can I order it whenever. What's the process like? I have the Molina healthcare plan, I know that plays a factor to what I can get. Help please!

Re: Free insurance breast pump

  • Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask. Each plan is different so our experiences will be of little help to you. Just for reference, my plan covers the whole pump with a doctors prescription, I just have to pay a $25 copay and I have to wait until 30 days before my EDD before they send it.

  • I went through a medical supply company called Aeroflow. They called my insurance for me to determine what my options are and when I could order. Then they sent me a list of all their pumps with pricing based on my insurance (some free; others are upgraded by me paying extra fee). I picked my pump, paid extra for my upgrades, then they called my doctor for the prescription, handled all the paperwork with insurance, and mailed my pump within a week. It was so easy! I think there are other companies like this too, and I highly recommend using one versus calling your health insurance company.

if you are in the U.S., know that the ACA requires that your health insurance company pay for a pump. It is good to know your rights incase they give you the runaround.

Also, if you for whatever reason, can't get one through your insurance, I think you can rent them from hospital or buy a closed system used and replace certain parts on it... But I don't know much about that stuff.

I also went through Aeroflow for mine with my previous pregnancy. It was super easy.
  • Aeroflow here too.  Quick and easy.  Got my pump about a month ago.

  • Yea just call your insurance. We can't do it for you even though it's super easy. For me it was faster than creating a thread on TB
