Anyone else delivering at a birth center? Curious about what you are packing....

Are any of you ladies delivering at a birth center? I recently switched my car to a birth center and am excited about the change. Im wondering what you are packing if you are delivering at a birth center? The stay is quite short and at least the center Im going to, is very hotel like- beautiful linens, robes, a full kitchen. The only thing I can think I need is clothes to go home in should the clothes I arrive in get dirty, clothes/diapers for baby, blanket for baby, cell phone, camera and any snacks I might want. The shorter stay makes me feel like I could probably get away without taking anything but maybe that's me being naive. A friend recently delivered at the same birth center and the whole thing happened while her 2 year old slept. Got to the birth center at 11pm, baby came at 1am, home at 6am. (I dont expect my experience will be quite that fast, but that's impressive!). Id love your ideas if you are doing a similar type of birth.

  • Every place is different with what they do or don't provide. Bringing your own personal toiletries and clothing would be a start. I would ask the birthing center for a list of what to bring and what they provide and then go to our hospital bag thread to fill in the blanks.

  • Our birthing center is giving us a list once we are a few weeks to our due date
  • Thanks ladies! Ill see if I can get a list at my next appointment. Apparently packing my bag (and not finishing the nursery) is the stage my nesting is currently at!

  • I delivered at a birth center last time. This time we are doing a home birth. For the birth center we had to bring some birthing supplies and after birth necessities (pads). They did provide a list of stuff we needed to bring. I also recommend bringing stuff to take a shower, along with comfy clothes. I delivered at 2 pm and we were home by 6 pm. Make sure you bring some high protein food. Even if you don't want to eat during labor it's good to have after. Don't forget all the stuff for baby (clothes, socks, hats, diapers, wipes, etc.). Even though you are only there a short time you still want to feel clean and comfortable after baby comes.
  • I am delivering at a BC. I have a diaper bag packed for baby with all his essentials. I'm just going to pack fiancé and I like we are doing an overnight somewhere with a few extras. Plus we have to bring food to prepare a meal.
  • I am delivering at a birth center and I have no idea. I'm just trying to focus on what I'll need for labor.

  • I intended to deliver at a freestanding birth center with my first but was a transfer. Things I brought that may not be typical:

    arnica montana
    scenter candles
    massage oils
    music
items for baby inc cute hats for pics and soft swaddle blanket
    food for husband
    electrolyte drinks for me
tops to wear in birth tub
