Due date confusion

Hi everyone! Do you know if the Dr. takes into account your cycle length when computing due dates? I get 2 different dates when looking online because I have a 23/24 day cycle (either 4/27 if the website requests this info, or 5/1 if the website does not)? Thanks in advance, with two losses in 2015 every hour makes a difference.

Re: Due date confusion

  • They typically do take it into account. Mine always asks my normal cycle length.

  • I think it depends on the doctor. As far as I know, they usually base it on the average 28 day cycle, O on CD14. Were you tracking and know what day you ovulated? If you do, your doc may take that in to account.

  • No, I was not tracking but am very accurate in my cycle length.
  • I don't think they always do but if your Dr does a first trimester ultrasound then they can give you a more accurate date from that!

  • With my first, the doctor asked me about my cycles and compared the date that the u/s tech got at my first scan versus my chart. Since I charted while TTC, I knew my exact O date and so my doctor at that time went with my EDD based on my O date rather than the u/s (they only differed by 2 days, though, so it wasn't a big deal). I ended up having her on my exact due date!

    BFP!! 8/29/16 --> EDD: 5/11/17....it's a GIRL!!! :)
  • I'm wondering the same things I'm opposite and have a longer cycle around 30-32 days so if I go by date of lmp it's may 5 if I got by my cycle it's either may7/8/9

  • My MD did not ask that but they used a ultrasound to lock in an edd
  • Mine did not with DS but I'm in the same boat as you. Even after my dating ultrasound my edd was Sept 23. I knew I'd go early and had him at 38 weeks on the dot. It's really all a guessing game though.
  • If they don't ask you can tell them but unless you were temping, you really don't know how long your LP was and therefore exactly when you ovulated and how far along you are. For example if you usually ovulate on day 15 and your LP is only 10-11 days, then you'd be go back 2 weeks back from when your O date was and that would give you a different day than if you normally ovulate on day 10-11 and then have a 15 day LP. Either way, the doctor might take what you tell him into consideration but ultimately your due date will be determined by the dating ultrasound.

    My doctor was different. She just went by the dating u/s, which was 3 days earlier than my O date. I still had her on my O due date!

  • My conception EDD and LMP EDD are a week apart from each other. The doctor will only change my EDD (from my LMP) if my ultrasound shows a difference of +/- 7 days. Less than 7 days and she will keep my LMP date.

    I was going to say something along these lines. With a short cycle you still could have ovulated on CD 14 like the people with 28 day cycles. I think that a dating ultrasound is the only way to go.
  • I have a 24-27 day cycle, but because I ovulated on CD 14 this cycle (with an 11 day LP every cycle) that means my due date will line up with that of an average 28 day cycle.

    I would say once you have an US, they will find you may be 3-4 days behind, I would book based around that (3-4 days at 6 weeks could be the difference between seeing a heart beat and not) but because it's not more than a week you doctor will likely stick with the original due date anyway.

  • Technically I should be 6 weeks based on my lmp....but I know I'm not that far along due to "time" with my partner.  I'm either almost 5 weeks or at 5 weeks.  The first beta I had done was 53...then 2 days later it jumped to 220...that was last Friday.
