I didn't have NSTs with my first even though I had GD then too. He was born prematurely (water broke, born at 33+6), but my OB hadn't mentioned me needing them (she's not super aggressive as long as your blood sugar numbers are in check). But this time I'm also seeing an MFM (both because of my preemie and a subsequent pregnancy with a neural tube defect) and she mentioned that I would be getting them weekly starting at 32 weeks because of my gestational diabetes. I'm just not sure I feel they are necessary when I'm keeping my blood sugar in check and he's measuring okay. Thoughts and opinions?
Re: Non Stress Tests for Gestational Diabetes
Makes sense to me, but multiple providers later, still no answer.
All that to say, I did NST's 2x/week starting at 34 ish weeks.
The strange thing is, I do not have GD this time, but my MW wants me to do a growth ultrasound to rule out IUGR because my last baby was small (but not by any means SGA!). I don't know...sometimes I see the reasoning for the tests, sometimes I know everyone is just covering their butts and I don't think they are necessary. Makes me extra thankful for good insurance!!
