TTMA Blogs

Do you have blogs you regularly read? If so, which ones? How do you read them - like do you just periodically visit the blog? Do they email you with a new post? Do you use some sort of reader that has a blog feed?

Re: TTMA Blogs

  • There are two blogs I check regularly, but not with any set frequency.  I like Yarn Harlot and Pioneer Woman.  I periodically visit, with Pioneer Woman I check it out if I feel like cooking but don't have any ideas.  I'm not set up for emails, honestly that would drive me nuts.  For Yarn Harlot, I like to go in once or twice a month and read several posts at once.

  • I created a separate email account for the blogs I like to read and send them all there. When I'm in the mood for them, I download a separate mailing app (like gmail if I'm just using the mail app on my phone for regular email) and use that one app to receive emails about the blogs I like. If I'm tired of hearing from them, I just remove the app for a while. It's never in my regular messages, never on my newsfeed, never bothers me if I don't want it to. BUT if I'm in the mood for it, it'll be there waiting for me to catch up.

  • I look at some food/recipe ones but that's about it. Skinnytaste, Emily Bites, and Damn Delicious. I don't usually look daily. I follow them all on IG too so if a recipe looks good there I'll go check it out, or if I need dinner ideas I'll browse their sites.

There are also a few girls I knew in high school that have family blogs that I stalk. They're kind of train wrecks so it's just eye roll entertainment for me.
  • @austenista that's a great idea. I find blogs that I like, sign up and then get annoyed at the volume of emails I get. I'll have to do that going forward!

But how do you find blogs you like?

  • @slartybartfast pinterest usually. I follow Common Sense Homesteading - tons and tons of helpful tips, recipes, etc. and Michelle Marie Fit (Pregnancy) right now. Though I'm ready to drop the pregnancy one because I'm out of the free trial stage and everything I receive is an invitation to buy stuff.

Six Sisters Stuff is good too, but I don't religiously follow their blog. I just check in from time to time.

  • I feel like @PensiveCrayon may have some
    wonderful insight to this question.

I follow a few things on Facebook and then click to the site should I have interest.

  • @slartybartfast what are your interests? Most blogs have social media accounts and a lot that I follow, their pages follow their pages. Just go 'sploring.

For instance, I enjoy reading blogs about homemakers because I am a homemaker. A lot of them interact with each other and even do weekly link ups with each other.

I enjoy book review blogs and I go about that much the same way. I look up reviews for books I like and find them via their reviews and scope out what else they have reviewed.

Just look up what you're interested in. If you're not sure what you're interested in, type in best blogs to follow and see what pops up.

  • hmmm good question. What am I interested in reading a blog about? Sadly this question cropped up because I'm super bored at work and was looking for something to read

I guess I may be looking for like a lifestyle... homemakey... something... blog...

This is a blogger I like. She's not my favorite blogger out there but she posts a ton of content. She also makes so much money blogging, her husband was able to quit his job and come home to help her out (heeey!). She's a Christian homemaker type blog, but she lays out how she organizes the blogs she likes, which is different from how I do it, but a different perspective is also cool.

*also for you twin mom's who were talking about having double sets of twins: It happened to her. She's on her third pregnancy, but 5th baby. :)

ETA: She also mentions Bloglovin' which I forgot all about. You'll surely be able to find something on there. It's a whole blog network.

  • Aw, @DiFazette thanks for thinking of me!

I mostly just find blogs when I'm researching a specific topic. Recently I've been into bullet journaling planning big things for next year's BuJo, and I've been loving the articles on BoHo Berry. One of my favorite go-to food blogs is Smitten Kitchen...literally nothing I've made from Deb has gone wrong or tasted bad. (Okay, I take that back: one thing. I wasn't a fan of the potato pizza.)

For my pregnancy needs, I enjoy the articles on Pregnant Chicken and also sort of Romper, though they can sometimes be annoying/clickbaity.

I like reading stuff about Montessori at home; How We Montessori is a good example of that.

As far as readers, check out Feedly! My editor sent me his entire Feedly thing so I could pitch him articles, so I don't check it that often, but it's a good feed reader that you can use for organizing your topics of interest.

  • @PensiveCrayon - awesome! Thanks! The How We Montessori blog is also right up my alley. DS goes to montessori school at 2.5 years old and I'll be home with him at least half the week from Dec. until then. I was thinking about trying to work some Montessori-inspired discovery activities into the days. I am not crafty so this is very challenging for me.
