We are beginning to plan our little man's first birthday! What theme is everyone doing?
Kade's party is going to be circus/carnival theme. We are going to do it around lunch time and have hamburgers and sides. I'm planning to incorporate our theme with some animal crackers, cotton candy, and some super fun decorations.
Can't wait to see what everyone else is doing and share pictures after the big events!
I guess my theme is "Things my daughter likes." I got her invitations printed on balloons, and ordered a bunch of farm animal balloons to decorate with. Her cake will be a cat...I think...because keeey cats are her favorite haha.
We are doing a monster themed costume party (birthday October 29th). I have pintrested the crap out of monster theme birthday and have so many cute ideas. We have lots of friends with kids right around the same age and since you don't really take your 1 year old trick or treating we thought it would be nice for everyone to put those tiny costumes to use! I just ordered his today, he's dressing up as max, king of the wild things (one of our favourite books!) and it is soo bloody cute!

I love the circus theme idea. I am on Pinterest a lot at the moment but haven't decided on anything yet. We will definitely have fridge magnets. I have ordered save the date fridge magnets thou. Also, there won't be that many kids, maybe 5 or 6 plus the birthday boy. Planning his smash the cake shoot, too. Getting super excited already!

I had planned all along to do a baseball theme but my son growls/roars all the time so i'm thinking a monster theme would be more appropriate!
I guess were boring lol were not really doing a theme, but gold and pink. And glitter. Very girly. Lo isnt really into anything specific at the moment.
We are doing a "pumpkin patch" party - great thing about fall birthdays. Is anyone else just keeping it low key though? My family is expecting this huge party, people are driving in from out of state and just inviting themselves, like uhm...maybe we aren't going to have a huge party? Maybe just cuz I'm usually the party planner of the family--my mom is telling her friends to come who I don't even know!!! this is my mom: "if I know my daughter it will be the party of the year!" Yes, I usually go big or go home with parties but I think that I just want to keep this one mellow....but then thinking about all the stuff I need to do to the house and getting all the fall decorations in order all the pumpkins.....I'm trying not to stress and I think I'm overthinking this....it's just a first birthday. He will never remember it!! Im just keeping it short and simple 2 hours 4-6 after his last nap of the day. Even my neighbors that I barely talk to are asking when his party is and out of state cousins, all of my husband's family.......how can I just tell everyone we are keeping it simple? If it were just up to me it would just be the grandparents and immediate family, my husband's sister and brother and my sister and have cake and a few presents. It's almost as annoying as when everyone wanted to "come over to help" but ended up just hogging my newborn while I got everyone coffee. But people in my mommy playgroup want to come, one mommy is having a huge bash for here kid and spent almost $100 on invitations ordered from Etsy, one is renting a huge venue out....this is only the first birthday! Think of all the more money and effort when they get older and actually know it's their birthday!!! ugh! Edited to say: It's not that I don't want to celebrate my little guys first birthday, I do! But I think it is kind of rude for people to expect a huge party to be thrown before I even send out invitations. My out of state cousin basically said she needs to know cuz she has to request off work......so that cousin wants to come and does that mean I have to invite all my other out of state cousins? that's like two more families...but if I don't invite them too I'll never hear the end of it. Also, I just want it to be more intimate -- I'm starting to feel like I'm throwing a party for my family and not my son. Tempted to tell everyone we are just keeping it simple and not having a big party....but people EXPECT me to have a huge party. I'm serious. And yes, I know it's my son's party I can have it however I want but my mom is driving in from out of state and other family members will be here....It's expected that I host this huge shindig yet no-one is offering to help pay for it? Sorry but we are having financial problems, I just went back to work because it was getting too stressful living on one income, not to mention both of our cars broke down at the same time, and yet I'm expected by my family to throw this huge party for extended family and for everyone's friends. I'm tempted just to say I am not having a party at all and just have us and the grandparents ONLY.
How frustrating to be expected to host a large party! That is a tough spot to be in. We are also sticking with a small party. As you said, the babies will not remember it. In addition, something could throw them off (such as a a big crowd) and the LO not even be in the mood for all of the chaos. My little guy would be happiest if he could eat bacon and push toys back and forth on the floor, without being touched and messed with. Since it is his birthday, I have a hard time thinking that is not ok.
I also found the "help" that really just meant more work for me (and time that I wasn't holding my baby) to be so irritating! Two weeks PP we went to the in-laws for dinner, I was helping DH's grandma make the food, while everyone else sat around, but that is getting off topic...
You seem spot on in saying that the party ends up being for everyone
else. If it is also a financial concern, that only gives more pull to
your wish of a small party.
We are doing a vintage floral theme with tons of paper flowers around the whole venue and tons of gold glitter on everything!! I seriously can't get off Pinterest these days lol
We're doing "our little pumpkin" theme- I was planning on doing a tea party (even had cute tea party invites ready) but I figured I'll save that in case she wants to have a tea party birthday when she's 5 or something lol our colors are pink and cold with lots of pumpkins and fall decor. I'll put glitter on pumpkins, have pumpkin pie etc!
Havent even thought about it yet. Probably just a BBQ. OH!!!! I ordered a wagon for my mini pony! So hopefully that will be here by then and there can be mini wagon rides! Here it is half finished:
Try this: We're hit or miss on naps right now and the baby can be easily overwhelmed with large groups of people, so we're having a small family get together. We have plenty of time for bigger parties when he/she is older!
Her birthday is the day after our wedding so I really didn't plan on doing anything at all but then everyone kind of freaked about it. We're doing a small party on her birthday for family that is still in town and might do another small one with our friends here a couple of weeks later. I wasn't going to have a theme but one of those Oriental Trading catalogs came yesterday and they have Brown Bear (she LOVES Brown Bear) and Very Hungry Caterpillar themes so I will probably just get some of those decorations and call it a day.
Cupcake/Shabby chic - pinks, tourquoise, burlap, twine. Going to get catering, not sure what yet but maybe a meat, Mac and cheese and salad. Then cupcakes and a cheesecake. Hopefully in our back yard if weather permits. We are sept 17th.
We are doing a pumpkin and purple party for my little girl. Hoping for good weather, so we can do things outside. Will have yard games set up and buying some hale bales for seating. Will be small and low key. Have fun planning everyone!
We are doing a hot air balloon themed party since our town hosts a huge balloon fiesta in October. We are just gonna have a taco bar for food so we can just relax and enjoy the company of our friends and family.
Wild Child/Wild One theme for us! Very boho, tepees, dream catchers, feathers, and handmade animal headbands for the kiddos (that I got volunteered into making). I thought it was going to be low key but my mother and my little one's God mother want to go all out so I'm just along for the ride.
We're doing a where the wild things are theme. But we're keeping it small and not going over the top. His birthday is on the 30th and he is going to be Max from the book for Halloween. So it'll be cute for his birthday too.
We're doing Penelope's Pumpkin Patch. I'm planning on having lots of pumpkins for decor some painted some carved and will have fall decor to go along with it. I'm planning on doing a table spread with little stations that look like a harvest so pumpkin cake pops, rice cirspie hay bales. Hopefully it looks as cute in reality as it doesn't in my head lol

His room is pirate themed so I'm continuing that theme to his first birthday party ⚓⛵☠
