I think there have been a few old posts concerning this topic. I'm on mobile, so I can't link. OP, try searching the board for home births and birthing centers. The topic was under a name similar to that. There may be a couple that come up. If anyone on their computer could link, that'd be great!
@sjanish here is the link to the thread @cjs260 was talking about. It's a few weeks old but it has some good conversation on it, if I remember right there were a few home birth-ers on it!
Yay mamas doing home births! My midwife practice only delivers at the hospital, so I'll be there. Good luck to all of you, can't wait to hear those birth stories.
We are planning a homebirth (#1 and 2 were both homebirths) but just found out that I've got partial placenta previa. I've got a follow up ultrasound around 28 weeks to see if it moves up enough. So if it moves, yay homebirth. If it doesn't, we move to a planned c-section at 37/38 weeks
DD1 (2008) DD2 (2010), #3 (DH's first bio kid) on the way in January 2017! Almost always mobile bumping--forgive my typos.
@zdmd_14 I have a friend who is waiting for her 28 week to find out if her previa resolves, but her OB hasn't given her timing on c section scheduling if it doesn't. Is that early timing typical for c sections because of previa?
I hope yours resolves and you get your home birth!

The OB that I had the consult with said they typically don't want you to start to dialate at all. I said something like "if i were 2cm, but not in active labor, would I need to be on bedrest/pelvic rest then? or would that be reason to go ahead and have surgery? or do you just wait until you're in active labor to do the c-section?" He said "if you have placenta previa and you're 2cm dialated, you'll be bleeding. And if you're bleeding you're in the hospital."
So essentially, if you have a bleed they try to stop it and if they can't, you deliver right away. This was very natural friendly OB and he said that the risk of prematurity or being early term is considered much less significant than the risk of hemorrhaging once you're at 37/38 weeks.

@zdmd_14 Thank you for the information - knowing all of this will be helpful for me in supporting my friend if her placenta doesn't migrate between now and then. I will have you in my thoughts as well!!
@zdmd_14 I hope your placenta migrates and you're able to go ahead with the homebirth. It sounds like you're in good hands with your MW and OB regardless, and that they are clearly on top of things.
My mom had homebirths with me and my 5 siblings, so it's something I definitely considered, but my husband was very wary. I don't feel strongly enough about it to push, so this time around I'm doing the same as @ThePax89 and delivering in a hospital with a midwife (hoping to go med-free). This particular hospital calls its maternity unit a birthing center, but it's really just part of the hospital.

I think if I hadn't already had 2 homebirths with my ex, then DH might have pushed more heavily towards the hospital route. But the fact that I've BTDT has basically pushed him more towards just going with the flow. He has remarked more than once though about how frustrating it is that a homebirth means using out of network benefits. And could not help but point out if we ended it needing the c-section, it would be cheaper for us....love my frugal husband but I seriously wanted to kill him. Have you all read the book "homebirth in the hospital"? If he has wanted to be in the hospital, I was going to order the book.
@sjanish. Yes! Can you PM people from the mobile app? Is this birth #1 for you?

@zdmd_14 I haven't read that book but will definitely check it out! Assuming everything goes smoothly, I'm really really hoping to go home as soon as possible after the birth. My mom lives nearby and has also offered to sleep over the first few nights if we want, and I know I'll be more comfortable recovering in my own house. 1 thing that made me feel better about going this route is that my MWs and the hospital do allow a 12-hour discharge if there are no complications. hopefully the on call pediatrician is on board as well.
Also this hospital is meant to be very supportive of natural/med free labor and delivery - they let you eat and don't confine you to the bed if it's not medically necessary, they are laid back about timelines, and you don't even see an OB unless there are complications that warrant his/her intervention. So I'm hoping it works out!
The insurance thing is so frustrating too. My MW practice only recently became in network for most of the major insurance providers and I'm so grateful they are!
The set up with your MWs and hospital rules sounds great! Our hospital has gotten pretty natural friendly and has a low c section rate but you can't pick your OB or even just a set few. It's just whichever of the 10 is available when you're in labor. Id be ok rotating between 3 or so but not that many...especially knowing that some are very intervention happy.

Re: Anyone here doing a homebirth?
I wish!! I really want one but due to being high risk, I am stuck at a hospital... but I do get to have a midwife. Yay.
