Re: Thoughts on Mabel?

  • I like it. Its got that vitage charm. Fiona is also nice.

  • I don't think there's anything specifically wrong with it... but it's NMS. I think Hannah and Fiona (love this name right now) are hands down better. I like Hannah best with your sib set. Very recognizable and not super trendy right now.
  • I really like Mabel Elizabeth
  • I adore the name Mabel, and like both your alternatives as well.

  • Mabel Elizabeth is nice and I think it goes well with your sibset. Out of the three Fiona is my favourite.

  • I really like Mabel.
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • Mabel goes well with your sibset, but my personal preference would be Fiona Mae. Or maybe Flora Mae? Or even Hazel Mae? I know I went down a rabbit trail there, but I thought you might like them.
    The McC 3 - DH, (38) Me, (34) and DS (3)
    A.J.M. - Born 6/11/13 after 17 BFNs including 1 failed IUI.
Maybe Baby #2 - Started TTC Feb 2015. Called it quits after 29 cycles.
  • I like Mabel better than Hannah or Fiona, but they are all fine. Thumbs up

I absolutely love both Flora and Hazel but can't use either because combined with my last name they would be worthy of a side eye
  • Thank you all! I was worried Mabel was too old sounding.  Now if this baby turns out to be a girl then we're all set (team green)!
  • Mabel is nms but pretty but I do love Hanna!
    DD1: 2/28/12
    DD2: 9/12/13
    Baby #3: Due January 2018

  • I much prefer Hannah and Fiona. There's nothing really wrong with Mabel but I just don't care for it. It's old ladyish to me but maybe it's ready for a comeback. :)
  • I agree with a lot of PPs Mabel is nice. I prefer Hannah over it though. Maybe do Hannah Mae?

  • LOVE IT!

I think it's in the same vein as Millie, Hazel, Vera, Veda, Edith, Frances... I say BRING EM' BACK! :)
  • I vote bring them back too.

Some of the most popular names right now Evelyn, Ruby, etc were definitely seen as "too old" just a few years ago.
  • Love Mabel!
  • Mabel is definitely NMS and I don't think it's flows well with the big brothers names. I prefer Hannah, Fiona, Mabel. Fiona makes me think of Shrek though. But who am I to tell you anything, lol. I'm just an Internet stranger!
  • Ok I change my vote. I absolutely love Mabel! I think it works great in your sibset. Benjamin Owen Mabel all kinda have the same feel for me.

  • Definitely think Mabel is ready for a comback, and I like it the best with your sibset.

Growing up, my grandparents had a dairy cow named Mabel, so I could never use it for fear of family members always thinking of the cow, but it's a beautiful name!!

  • I love Mabel, and agree that it's in line with some other "older" names that have been coming back, but it's still not as trendy. It goes well with your sibset too.

Mabel is actually a family name on my side and I keep kind of coming back it, but can't seem to convince my DH. I'm also not sure it sounds great with our last name (which starts with the same BEH sound).

I'd definitely go for it if I were you!
  • I hear Mabel and I think of this:

    Me: late 30s | H: early 30s
    TTC #1 since April 2015
RE Dx: Fibroids, surgery Jan 2016
    IUI #1 and #2, Nov/Dec 2016, BFN
    IVF March 2017: ER - 5R/3M/3F, 1 PGS normal
    Polyp removed May 2017
    FET May 2017 - BFP!
    Baby boy born 2/2/18

  • I just came here to search for this question. I'm so glad you asked it! I've always loved the name, and my husband brought it up yesterday. I say bring Mabel back! Fiona is also on our list.
