ER Dentist Tomorrow. Scared. Anyone done this while PG?

9AM TOMORROW!  i have horrible teeth. (4th pregnancy 26 week) I have severe gum disease and have been embarrassed have have basically stuck my head in the sand. No dentist in over 10 years. Yesterday I had either a filling from childhood or a crack or something happend in back molar EXCRUCIATING PAIN. OB oked treatment.xrays ok bc wanna make sure my bone is ok. BUT no sedation. No gas. So shots only. Could be a filling. Could be a root canal. But they will take one look at me and want to do a deep clean and plan the gum surgery holy cow I'm overwhelmed.  All while under NO sedation.  What are the shots like? Who has done this while pregnant? CALM ME DOWN. #1 FEAR.

  • I can't tell you anything about the surgery because I've never had it but I will say that you're doing the right thing having the gum disease treated. Periodontal disease has been linked to a lot of serious health risks (cancer, heart disease, etc.) including premature birth and low birth-weight babies.

If you can, try to find a LANAP doctor in your area (or drive to one, it's worth it). LANAP is a minimally invasive laser gum surgery that treats the gum disease without cutting or sewing so it's a lot less downtime after the procedure and a whole lot less pain than with traditional periodontal surgery.

    Good luck mama!
  • The shots numb everything to the point where all you feel is a little pressure at times. They'll also probably tell you to let them know if you do feel anything so they can give you another. The shots don't even hurt very bad either, just a big pinch in your gums, worth the relief you get when you don't have tooth pain anymore!

This! I hope it went well today @ojsmom!
  • OK UPDATE GUYS! I went Tuesday  (its Sunday) they would not touch me. Not only did my xrays show that a root canal was necessary but that the tooth was also touching the main nerve that makes the jaw go up and down. SO i got antibiotics and will see a specialist Friday. This is just a big ole mess but I'm def not as scared as I was bc everything was explained to me. <3
  • Good luck! I'm glad everything was explained to you. It's scary when you don't really know what's going on.
