Play area (or bedroom) flooring

What have people used for flooring for wherever their child spends a lot of time, play room, bedroom, wherever? I am working on a playroom and it currently has hard wood. I ordered a play may which is cushiony, but I'd like to cover the rest of the floor as well so I don't have to worry about her falling on the hardwood. The only thing I can think of is either centering the play may and kind of bordering it with those foam tile mats or putting it completely to one side and doing the opposite side with the foam mats. Any other suggestions? Esp other than the foam mats??

    Sorry, we just have the form mats. I am interested to see what other people have found.

    I haven't done anything about ours. I worried about them before she started moving but almost our entire house is hardwood including our stairs she loves to climb. I'll probably change my plan once she's running and jumping though!

    But you could always use rugs and just put a thicker nonslip pad underneath. Not as easy to clean as play mats but more aesthetically pleasing. You could do regular or those kid ones that have pictures like streets on them. 

    ETA: you could also look into carpet squares. Would end up with kind of a cross between a rug and a foam mat. Then you can just swap the square out if it really got destroyed.

    I put down foam mats, which cover the centre of the room. I think that's fine. I can't cushion everything. I made peace with the fact that there will be bumps and falls but lost will be on the foam.

    Yeah our entire house is hardwood I would just like this room to have to worry a little less about it. I ended up ordering the foam mats from rubberflooringinc.com and I'll put the play mat on top of them. I looked into the carpet squares too but it was going to be really expensive. Thanks everyone!
