I have been so focused on making it to a year, that I am not sure what I am going to do after 12 months. I have certainly had so many issues nursing (plugged ducts, dips in supply) and was just concerned I would not be able to keep it up. But LO will be a year old in a month and I have not had to supplement. He has certainly started day weaning but I still pump once a day so he gets two sippy cups at daycare. I still nurse morning, and a couple times at night. I guess I will just see where the journey takes us. Work is starting to ask if I can travel but That doesn't mean I would stop pumping / nursing. Any other working moms going to continue nursing and just going with the flow? Are you worried about how it will naturally progress or if your employer will ask you to travel? Surprised that you will continue? Any second time moms remember when their first baby day weaned and you could stop pumping at work?
Re: Working moms who still nurse / pump
When she is one I'm planning on giving breakfast before breastfeed and I think her interest in breastfeeding in the morning will wane as she is super into food when offered. I'm planning on offering morning and night for as long as she likes however, I am travelling for work for three days when she will be 15mths old so will be interested to see how that goes.
She doesn't drink plain cows milk or almond milk but will have it with cereal, smoothies etc.
@livvyloo87 Did your LO just stop nursing during the day or was it a slow reduction. We have gone from 16 to 6 ounces during the day but it has been holding at 6 ounces for awhile. I have daycare give him water plus two sippy cups of BM. They informed me that because they are a licensed facility they have to give LO milk twice a day. They are to follow USDA child care food plan. I wasn't planning on giving milk but rather water. He eats well and he gets his nutrition from other foods. I do send in yogurt for his breakfast, so he is getting dairy anyway. It is a non issue now because I am sending in BM. Just curious if you have run into this or maybe Your LO is with family or a private daycare?
So when she started daycare at 11 mths, I just told them to give water and she has done fine with the switch. We love in NZ so maybe our govt rules are different - our daycare just gives whatever the parent says.
My child wellness officer said between 6-10 mths they need around 600ml of milk or formula and from 10-12mths around 400ml and that other forms of milk can be introduced from 10mths. So, I breastfeed first thing then she gets porridge made with cow or almond milk, she will usually get yoghurt and cheese throughout the day then I breastfeed at night.
That said, she's got a cold right now and is wanting to breastfeed quite a lot!
I'm having an issue of from the time DD fully wakes up in the morning, she will nurse for only a hot second then try to get down when I'm home, or when DH has her she will drink like an oz and be done. Then she also picks at her food, spits a lot of it out now, and basically refuses anything but Cheerios, fruit, toast, cheese, beans or peas. So she has essentially day weaned, which is fine, but because she also is not wanting to really eat much solid food, I'm still having to get up 2-3 times between 10pm and 5am to nurse.
My plan had been to nurse her once in the morning and once before bed when she hit one year, then use up my freezer stash while introducing another type of milk during the day, until the freezer stash ran out, then drop the morning feeding, and continue nursing at night until she weaned herself or I got pregnant again.
Of course, little lady already dropped the morning feed and is not being cooperative with my master plan. Because of this, I've pretty much stopped pumping while at work for the past two weeks, and am resigning myself to nursing at night forEVER. Lol!
Because I'm at work, I don't witness him having other milk but it was definitely a hard decision to start to wean. I'm so anxious about the end of breastfeeding. I've loved it and I'm going to miss that part of our bond! That's why I'm giving up the nighttime feed last.
