Long Distance Pregnancy Announcment?

How are you ladies planning to announce to long distance family members? My parents and one sibling live in Baton Rouge, LA, and I live in NJ. I originally wanted to send them a box full of blue and pink balloons, but I'm worried that they'll pop in the box? What are you guys planning?

  • Nothing super exciting here. We just called our long distance friends and family.

  • DHs family lives in Germany we are just going to tell them over Skype.
  • With my 2nd, I wrote a letter to my niece who was just learning how to read. I asked her to read the letter to her family.  She was so proud and everyone was thrilled to hear the news from her!

With the 3rd, we took a photo of a hamburger bun in our oven and sent it.  It ended up being a sort of riddle!
  • I only did long distance general reveal things but they could be used for announcement - edible arrangements to brother, cookie basket to friend, cake to dad.
  • We are actually flying to Minnesota in a couple of weeks to break the news to my grandparents...this will be their first great grandchild so we wanted to tell them in person.  We'll also tell my aunts and uncles that live up there.  For my grandmother in Virginia we'll probably just call her, although I did consider mailing her something to open while she was on the phone with us.  Haven't decided yet but probably should in the next week!

  • We have a 10.5 month old and got him a tshirt that says big brother.  We facetimed my parents.  LO usually just has his face on the camera so they can't ever see what he is wearing.  During the conversation, we sat him on the couch with us and they read his shirt immediately.  My mom, of course, already had a feeling.  But it was fun.  We will do the same with my in-laws as soon as we can catch them on FT.

  • We're totally texting announcers. I mean, maybe we'll text a picture of ds reading the book, "I'm a big brother!" so that classes it up a bit.

I told my family last weekend as it was a rare time when most of us were together (I live in Illinois, parents and two siblings in Montana, one brother in Idaho, a sister in California - we met up in Utah). We were at dinner and towards the end of the meal, I said "Hey mom, we had some pictures taken. Do you wanna see?" and then gave her the ultrasounds. My sister who wasn't there, I just sent a picture of the ultrasounds with a text that said "Um....so this happened."
  • My parents, brother and his family, and my cousins all live in Massachusetts (I'm in SoCal). We'll be flying out there in 2 weeks to tell them. This is my first child.... and I'm 40..... so this will be a bit of a miracle for everyone. They didn't think I'd ever get pregnant, LOL. I purchased a pretty 3 photo wall frame that has a little quote about grandkids to tell my parents... first pic will have a baby pic of my niece (my parents' oldest grandchild), second is a babypic of my godson, and the third will be a copy of our US from next week's appointment. I think I may also have tshirts made for my niece and godson that say "World's Best Cousin" or something.
  • We facetimed with DD in a big sister shirt. Will probably email extended family or something
