  • That's it, I'm going back to weight watchers. I'm so tired of vegan food I could scream. If one more recipe tells me to add lentils or chickpeas or tofu I might break something. I loved eating that way before I got pregnant, but now, it's like taking medicine. I'm so tired of beans!

Anyone ever do WW pregnant before? I know you have to do so unofficially per their rules (I don't use their new system anyway, I prefer pointsplus), but I've seen plenty of people do it. I'm thinking I'll tell the tracker I weigh about 10-15 pounds more than I do so I'm eating enough.

  • That's it.. I'm done adulting today.  While I love my job and what I do, I just can't with today.  Maybe pp's idea about dessert might help. I can eat all the desserts lately!  Ice cream, chocolate cake, pies of any sort. that might make today a lot better!
  • Eating kettlecorn at work and bumping.

@caseyewhitaker I wouldn't do anything restrictive  during pregnancy OR while nursing.  Do you have medical reason for being vegan?  Your body may be telling you it needs something else... But I wouldn't be following anything that limits calories.  You could follow the meals but not count the points?

@DiFazette essentially that's the plan, to kind of follow the rules but not the points. I was going to tell the tracker I weighed more than I did so that I can keep track of what I eat and not necessarily lose weight but can be confident I'm not overeating either.

I was vegan when I got pregnant and I so was trying to stay that way because I liked it for the health benefits AND that's what helped me get pregnant, I believe. I talked to my doctor(s) about it, and they were comfortable with me continuing to eat that way during pregnancy. I'm just personally tired of doing so. What I liked about it was/is if you follow a healthy vegan diet it helps to control things like blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc. etc. etc. meanwhile you're eating as much as you need and until you're satisfied. Unfortunately, I'm so bored with the food options and even though my brain knows it's a better more compassionate way to eat, it also wants a cheeseburger.

I might change my mind yet, and continue trying to be vegan, but the whiny voice in my head really wants me to eat something else and I'm just trying to keep my health in the road for the next three months.

@caseyewhitaker cool!  Whatever works for you.  I just would be very careful to limit calories.  You can lie to the system, but I might go more than 10 lbs.  you'll gain more than that in baby, fluid and placenta before this is all over.

And I know your statement about blood pressure and vegan diet wasn't meant to be flagrant, but it's not quite accurate.  This is something I'm very well read on, I've seen the best specialists in the country on, and not a single one has suggested a vegan diet.  Reduction in red meat is not vegan - that's the only documented study I've seen to date.  Going vegetarian or vegan MAY help reduce blood pressure (and that's been mostly unfounded) but it is not a control method.  I wish people like me who have hereditary blood pressure issues could change our diet and be cured... It's not quite that easy.  Just a different perspective.

  • @DiFazette I definitely wasn't being flagrant. I was being perfectly serious and that's the best my knowledge has to offer from my own research/study on what plant based doctors and researchers are finding. I certainly wasn't advising anyone to do anything with their own health other than myself though, I hope that was clear.

@caseyewhitaker for sure... That's why I said 'I know you're not being flagrant'.  I meant that.   I don't think your statement came from a place of malice or intent to suggest to others what to do with a legitimate health concern, I was just offering up the other side of the coin as someone who's lived through a rather debilitating situation post delivery of DS related to BP.  We all know there's no such thing as one size fits all.

Either way, I wish you the best with whatever you choose to do moving forward.  Maybe your body just needs a cheeseburger.... Just one.  Fine, I'll have one for you.   ;)

  • That's it, I'm taking a nap. Like for real.
  • That's it! I'm setting the dog free. If I step in one more puddle of pee I'm going to scream. Okay, I've already screamed and used a few choice words which is very not like me. Thanks hormones. But for real, he's about to get the boot out the door.
  • Ditto @1mommyrunner! I don't know what is up with my dog. She has never had accidents. 150 pound dog pee on carpet sucks. We've lived many different places, but for some reason she loves peeing in this house. I don't know if it's medical, anxiety/move related or what, but it will be expensive to find out.
  • @caseyewhitaker have you thought about adopting a more paleo lifestyle if you're looking to add some meat/variety back in? It would get a bit more variety (you can do a modfied version if you want to keep some grains/legumes), it still prohibits dairy, and there are a TON of delicious blogs/books/recipes out there (I highly recommend PaleOMG and the Civilized Cave Man among a few others.)

I was really strict paleo (80/20...so 1 "cheat" day a week) a few years back (while doing CrossFit 5-6x a week...I am an all in or all out kind of person :)), and definitely felt amazing. I'm planning to go back to paleo after Bodhi is born (from a more 'whole foods' approach right now) because I miss the way my body felt.
