Grocery Shopping Success

The one thing I absolutely hate doing with my kids is grocery shopping.  I feel like I'm always rushed and forgetting half of my list.  The cart is full of kids and so there isn't very much room for groceries. The result is that my husband usually ends up taking our oldest on Sunday or Saturday mornings.  He doesn't mind but I feel like this is something I should be doing since I'm home and it would free up one of our mornings for something else.  I've also been thinking that if I'm worried about taking 2 littles then taking 3 when LO comes is basically out of the question.

Well a few of the stores in our area have started the drive up service.  I seriously recommend it to any one who has one in their area.  It is absolutely amazing, I don't forget anything because I can spend time going over my order in the evenings when the kids are asleep.  I also am able to put things in my cart during the week as I notice we are getting low or use the last one or something.  It even saves our orders so the things we get frequently are really easy to just drop in.  j

I left the restaurant with both boys after lunch with my mom at 2:15 and by 2:30 I had all of my groceries for the week in my trunk and was already on my way home. I was literally able to drive there, load up and take off within 15 minutes.  I can't believe how easy this makes such a frustrating task.  Our stores have a flat fee of only about 5 dollars which is well worth it to avoid the hassle for me personally. If anyone is on the fence, try it out! The last two weekends we have spent the time usually spent grocery shopping to take family trips to the little fruit market by our house instead and it has been so wonderful :)

Re: Grocery Shopping Success

  • How was your experience with the fresh produce though? That's what I always wonder about with these type of services.

  • I forgot you were pregnant again!!! Congrats again, sooooooo exciting!
  • @ElleMF728 Congrats on baby boy #3! How exciting :) you're so close. Please keep us posted.

Genius us idea of the grocery shopping. Which chain offers this service?
  • @kmcshane0211 Thanks! We are getting really excited to meet this little guy. Near us Kroger and Meijer do but its new so some stores have it and some don't.  I think that some places are trying it out to see what people think of the idea and if it will be used enough to keep the department going.  I just wanted to let everyone know in case they have the option in the area.  I know a lot of us are all looking for hacks and ways to make life just a little easier ;)
  • @ElleMF728 what state are you in? We also have Kroger and Meijer here in Michigan but we don't  have that service yet. Omg I'd be all over it! I finally ventured out to grocery stores with my 3 kids. Overall it's not bad but I would love to just pull up and have groceries put in my car!
  • I'm waiting for this service to start in my city! Currently the hubby & I drop all 3 kids at Nana's just so we can get it done without the craziness!

We are in Indiana and our super krogers just  started offering this service. Not the regular ones tho. I haven't used it yet but after hearing it worked well for @ellemf728 I think we will try it too!
  • This sounds like such a great idea! I always wondered how the produce is too. I feel like I can be super picky with that stuff.
  • @ItsmeR30 I'm in Michigan too! It is only at select stores right now but hopefully will be expanding.  The Kroger we used to go to was maybe a block away but doesn't offer.  This one that does is only about 3 miles as well though so its still very close.  I'm in the Plymouth/Canton area.

  • @ElleMF728 I didn't know you lived in MI! Wha whattt!! We live in Sterling Hghts! My husband was in Plymouth last weekend shooting and engagement shoot:)
  • @dmbfan46835 there is a super Kroger not too far from us.. I'll have to check out if they have this service!
  • Congratulations on boy #3!! How exciting! And thanks for the info :)
  • I used to order Peapod when I was on bed rest with the twins, it was fine for dry goods but I hated not picking my own produce. When my older three boys were little I found it easiest to put them in my triple stroller and pull the cart behind me. This way they were contained and I had the entire cart for groceries. It's easy once you get used to it.

  • Love online grocery shopping! We do Coborns Delivers here in MN, so they drop off your food on your doorstep (cold things in coolers with ice). No charge for delivery for the first 90 days, then $5 afterwards. It has been amazing! Can't believe I didn't take advantage of this sooner.

Hy-Vee also does grocery pick-up and delivery here in MN in some locations. For pick-up, you order online and then drive up to side of the store and they load your groceries for you (no extra cost). I haven't tried this personally, but my friend has and loves it! They don't deliver to my area yet, but if they start, I will give it a shot to compare!

I've ordered produce from Coborns and it's actually been the best produce I've ever gotten (much better than the produce section of my local grocery store). It also stays fresh longer. I also love that I can choose green or yellow bananas!
  • In Iowa Hy-Vee does this but they also have the option that they will deliver it as well!! For only $5! It's amazing.
  • Wow...I need to look into this!
  • Online food shopping is fantastic!

Also it cuts out the "Mummy, can I have......" as we go up and down the aisles. Haha.

Gets delivered at a time that suits me too.
    Perfect. :)
  • @dmbfan46835 I'm in Indiana too, but I don't think I know what a super Kroger is!! Lol! Are you North, south, central?

I'm curious too. I'm close by (Kentucky), and I'm not sure what a super Kroger is either. We definitely have plenty of regular Kroger stores.
  • Yassssss!!! I just did some poking around & our Super Walmart just started this! Definitely checking it out tomorrow! I'll let you know how it goes! #Stoked
  • SERIOUSLY LIFE-CHANGING!!! Thank you @ElleMF728 for starting this thread. Grocery shopping will never be the same!

BTW, if you order from Walmart they have a coupon code "REALEASY" for $10 off your first grocery pick-up. Minimum of $30 order.
