Milk coming in at birth question

So I am a stm but I have a question about milk coming in. With my first I was induced and ended up in a csection after three days of labor and it took my milk a day to come in. This time we are doing a planned csection to avoid a labor and delivery like last time. I am worried about my milk coming in when baby arrives. I know with csection it can hinder that since it is not natural labor, but I was wondering if there was something the Dr could give me that would induce my milk coming in or if anything like that even exists. Or if there is something I can do.myself to help the milk come in so I am able to feed babu once it is here. I want to avoid formula right away if I can. I know our hospital does donor milk as we fed my daughter that way for the first few days, but if I can do it myself that would be ideal.

  • My milk only really came in on day 4 ish. The colostrum was all good until then.. We did a lot of skin on skin and comfort nursed a lot those first few days and it seemed to have helped quite a bit.
  • DS was in the NICU, so he couldn't nurse, but pumping really helped to get things moving. I would imagine that stimulation from the baby would do the same thing.

  • Milk doesn't usually come in for a couple of days. Nursing is the fastest way to make that happen, regardless of birth type.

  • I had a scheduled c section last December. No issues with production/feeding baby!
  • I had csections with both.

First kid doctor gave me domperidone and it took 4 days to come in... Lots was there though.

second kid the midwife got me fenugreek and blessed thistle and it only took 2 days. I love my herbs.

Both babies gained weight well though.
  • There is a medication your OB can prescribe if you need it (like it never comes in).  It does have some side effects so they may be hesitant.  Make sure you discuss the side effects with them if you need medication.
