Bridesmaid Dress Help

Ok so my best friend is getting married November 5. I'll be like 34 weeks. I looove the dress she picked - super loose around the belly and long. I'll post a picture below. I ordered two sizes up to have plenty of room, and it's huge, but I met with my seamstress Saturday for a consult and she said NBD. Will be easy to hem and take in. I go back in October for her to start the process.

The one thing I can't believe I didn't think about was the back. It's like, full lace on the whole back. So how the heck am I supposed to wear a bra? I thought about going bra-less, but my seamstress said that's a bad idea considering how far along I'll be, and I think she's probably right. We talked about adding in cups, but she also didn't think that was a good idea in my case. I can't do a strapless (which never give me much support anyway) or even a low back because of how much of it is lace. My seamstress suggested putting in some nude fabric, which seems like it would be ok, but has anyone actually ever done that? How does it look? I'm afraid of looking tacky. She didn't have any samples she could show me or even any of the fabric on hand, but she said it's like slightly thicker than what ice skaters wear.  I have long hair, so I suppose I could wear it down to help hide the bra, but I really wanted to wear it up since I have a feeling I'll be hot all damn day. It's still pretty warm in Georgia in early November, usually.

Thoughts?

ETA: I have HUGE boobs - 40DDD. In case anyone is thinking of telling me to try pasties/stick on bras or something. LOL

  • Hmm i have little boobs so I'm probably not much help, but I loved having cups inserted in my bridesmaid dress a few years ago. Maybe you could do some that provide a little form but not much padding?

  • Oops, commented too soon. Also, I would definitely want my hair up, so that wouldn't be an option for me!

  • @DiFazette had it right. Have them line the back with a nude fabric and you'll never know!

  • What does the front of that look like? I just ordered a dress for my sister's wedding in March, and am self conscious about my back, as I have a lot of moles. My mom wanted to see if we could find a dress that had something like that (she knows how I feel about my back), but I just wanted to get something ordered and I'll worry about it then.

As other PPs have said, do the nude fabric. No one will notice, especially during the reception depending on how the lighting is.

  • I'd go with the nude fabric. Nobody will notice.
  • I would definitely do the nude fabric so you can wear a bra. I'm also part of the big boob club and I need a bra. Strapless bras are useless, as are cups.

  • First of all, that is a gorgeous dress!  I love the lacy back!  Agree with everyone else that nude fabric is the way to go.  No one will notice and you will get to wear a bra that actually provides support.
  • Thanks ladies. Nude fabric it is. Hooray! My seamstress is very sought after in my area and she knows her stuff, so I figured that was the best plan, but I was just hesitant because I've never seen it done.

  • That's such a pretty dress! It seems like it will be very flattering while pregnant too.  I think the nude fabric would be fine..she knows what she's doing. I don't see why sewn in cups wouldn't work if you've had success with them at your size before, but I would say she knows best.
  • I was in a wedding in June and July - dresses that I bought well before getting pregnant. The June dress was a similar look to yours - a little stretchy, definitely flowy and fitted through the top. The chest was a problem for me; I've gone up more than 2 cup sizes. It ended up tight enough that I ended up bra-less. I'm no flat-chested lady either, but it was comfortable enough. I did have to have a safety pin at the top of the zipper where the hook was because I didn't have faith in that tiny hook!

  • Wait a second....we still have to wear presentable clothes at 34 weeks?!?

Just kidding! That dress it pretty. Nude fabric is totally the answer unless you can wear pajamas to the wedding.
