Teething & Vomiting

Has anyone noticed any correlation with your LO teething and vomiting?

Our son is just over 11 months, and has 6 teeth.  I can see on his bottom gums irritation where his next two teeth are getting ready to come through (the lateral incisors).

As of lately he has been grumpy on and off, lots of hands/toys/anything in the mouth, chewing on stuff, etc.  This week he started randomly throwing up.  Once on Thursday mid-day, Saturday night at 2 am, and now tonight.

He had a very low grade fever on Thursday (99.5-100.5), but nothing since.  His bottle drinking has been off, some he will drink, some he is refusing entirely.  Same with his solids, he definitely isn't taking in as much as he usually does.

Funny thing is, he just doesn't seem sick.  He spends all day running around the house playing.  He is non-stop.  The kid never sits and takes a break, he is go go go.

What makes me wonder if there is ANY sort of correlation between teething and vomiting is we went through this same sort of thing when he was 6 months old and getting his very first teeth.

Just curious?  Trying to understand what could be going on with him...a bug...teething?  Just hoping this doesn't continue...we've had QUITE the mess to clean up...and we feel terrible for him!

We are going to call the doctor tomorrow to see what he has to say.  Last time he said it was just something that would "run it's course".

Re: Teething & Vomiting

  • Yes. Our daughter is teething and puking too. It's not fun!

  • @CraftyMommy14, are they like full on vomits too?  Tonight after his bedtime bottle he thew up all over us, the rug in his room, and we quickly tried to move him out into the loft and it got all over the floor out there.

It's just so random too, not happening every day, but when it does, such a mess!!!
  • I haven't had this happen with any of my kids.  Check in with the doc and see, though.  Maybe it's normal to have that happen.

Hopefully he's totally fine, since he's not acting sick otherwise.

  • Well, it's usually more of just a lot of spitting up, not like a full stomach emptying. And only on her very worst teething days, not every day or anything. But there are lots of outfit changes and baths on those days. In her case, it's not enough to alarm me, but I'd definately ask your doctor like @mill1020 said if you're concerned. I hope he's feeling better soon!
  • DD definitely does more spitting up or gagging and vomiting when she's teething. I think it's because of all the drool she swallows. I've noticed she's also a lot more refluxy too.
