Breastfeeding? Read this:

As a 3rd time mom, I wish I had read this article 10 years ago. There are so many "rules" and "guidelines" that are accepted as normal, but may not be necessary. A must read for breastfeeding mamas:

Re: Breastfeeding? Read this:

  • Several of these are not as true as they sound. Many ladies on my last BMB had to pump to maintain or increase supply because of many different reasons. Also if you notice your LO is extra gassy after you have a caffeinated drink then maybe you can cut it out to save some heartache. Many ladies have found that fennel, goats rue, the teas give them a boost- whether placebo or not it can help them relax and quit stressing as much.

Here's something I learned recently that may be helpful for some--if you have fibrocystic breasts, it shouldn't interfere breastfeeding. Breastfeeding may actually help alleviate some of the lumps for a while. Some women may have mastitis though. Just depends on your body.

It was something I was concerned about since I've got lumpy space princess breasts! So no worries..
  • All very good advice!

  • Good article. I think the important point is that every mom-nursling's relationship is different and not to get swept up in the "right" way of doing things because the way you do things is the right way as long as it is working for you.
    Exactly! Well said :)

  • Concur that this is excellent advice. I feel like all the "rules" stressed me out more than necessary in the beginning of bf. I wish I knew not to worry about what I was eating, or an occasional (well spaced) drink. Do agree with Kate08Young on one point though, supplements can be valuable. I really believe that fenugreek was instrumental in bringing my supply back when it dropped around 5 months.
