How to know when I am ovulating?

My husband and I have been TTC for 5 months now with no luck. About the same time we started TTC I also found out that I have a cyst that is causing me to have irregular periods. I hadn't really thought about if it was affecting my fertility until now. My cycles are approximately 30 days. I've been having light spotting anywhere from 4-8 days before what I call my "actual period" starts. Where I bleed like a normal period for another 7 days. Now That I'm thinking about it I'm not sure if this prolonged bleeding is affecting my ovulation? I was just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation, and if so, did it affect your TTC at all?

Hey @erynashleigh

First, I really encourage you to read the newbie post. That has all the tips for figuring out when/if you might be ovulating.

This is an example of a question that would be great in the WTO (waiting to ovulate) thread, in the future.

I personally have cystic ovaries (15+ on both sides), and I could tell you that whole story - but it wouldn't be useful to you. What my body does will not be what your body probably does. If you have a real concern about the cyst then you can ask your GYN/OB/Midwife for an ultrasound to check it out.

Not for nothing, but 30 days isn't "irregular." Even if you have some cycles that are like 34 days, still not irregular. My cycles used to average 50 days before I started on Clomid. Temping will help confirm whether you have ovulated. Period apps don't confirm ovulation. previous posters have advised you well on where to get more info.

But no, in all seriousness, I second everything @antoto said. All the information you need is in the Newbie Thread, and please join the board by using the daily WTO and TWW threads. Also, as a heads up, it's really not encouraged around here to make your own thread for frequently asked topics like this because it clogs up the board when everyone asks the same questions.
