April 2017 Moms

It's twins!

Well I'm in complete and utter shock. We went in for an early ultrasound because I was having major side pain, which now I know is mist likely a kidney infection or stone which also happened during my first pregnancy. She started the us and said "do twins run in your family?" I freaked out and yelled "Are you f#%^* Sh%^*€ me??!?" Not my finest moment I'll admit. She had trouble getting the second heartbeat and I thought for a spilt second she was wrong but then there it was beating away. I sobbed and shook for a while. I think I'm still in denial and this may need to soak in for a while. Guess I need to go check out the multiples board! Though my due date is 4-4-17 I will deliver some time in March. Guess I'll be walking between two boards for now.

  • Wowzers! I'd probably pass out on the table. Twins are so scary to me...I grow small early babies and twins would pretty much guarantee me NICU time. Nobody can deny that's so exciting though!

  • From a fellow twin momma, congrats! You are in for one heck of a ride that not many get to be a part of! I think it took over a month for it actually to sink in for my husband and I. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask me. (Now this makes me even more nervous for my US for this pregnancy! I think they would literally have to pick me up off the floor if I had twins in there again!)
  • Congrats! That's exciting! I think I may have had the same reaction you did, had it happened to me.

  • Thanks ladies! I'm still in shock. I fully expected to wake up this morning to find out it was all a dream. Guess not ha!
@java1982 oh man I've got a million questions! Funny enough one of the first things I thought was Cam I still breastfeed?? That is one of my most treasured memories from DD and I would be so sad if I couldn't. I've checked out the multiples board but there doesn't seem to be much action, am I missing something?

A good friend of mine has 18month old twin boys. She has been breastfeeding them with no problems! I think they just stopped "snacking" a couple months ago.

@Mama5181--you absolutely can! Many moms of multiples (or MOMs) tandum breastfeed successfully all of the time. My boys were preemies and one was unfortunately very ill at birth and needed to be taken to a hospital about an hour away. As a result I had to pump for Twin A to send to the NICU and Twin B had such a hard time latching due to lack of muscle
strength, that I actually ended up exclusively pumping for both of them for 12 months (what a journey that was!) In my situation it was what was less stressful and convienent at the time. You will be surprised at how your body regulates its milk based on demand. I have a friend of twins that tandum fed for 16 months until they began to self ween!
The Multiples board use to be busier a few years ago when I had first conceived the twins, unfortunately it seems to come in waves depending on the amount of women pregnant with multiples (makes sense, right?! Lol) Lately, it has been a ghost town. There are lots of good resources online and many cities have a Mom of Multiples support group that meets once a month. That may be a good place to start. Congrats again! It's such an exciting ride! Message me more questions if you've got them!
  • Not at all trying to push you away, but there are lots of multiples on the March board. They have a weekly thread, I think. Might be a good place to stop by while April folks are still in the process of finding out.

  • Congrats!! You can definitely still breastfeed! Plus, you;ll ave a leg up since you already did it and know how it works. I nannied for many mother of multiples who nursed, you just need to be patient with yourself, and the babies. Get lost of support from your partner and, or course, a great lactation consultant!
