Hi ladies,
I just restarted my period for the first time last month. I am still breastfeeding so that wasn't a concern. It was a normal period, lasted 5 days with no issues. This month I am now a week late and have taken multiple pregnancy tests which were all negative. Maybe my period is just irregular due to the breastfeeding but I hate not knowing for sure. Have any of you had a negative pregnancy test but were actually pregnancy? At what point would you say a hpt would be positive? I can't remember from my previous pregnancy and the answers are all over the place online! Thanks for any personal experience with this!
Re: Late period, negative pregnancy test
When breastfeeding (and for awhile after weaning), your hormones are all over the place and trying to regulate themselves, so a late period is very, very normal.
Are you using some type of protection, or are you actively trying to get pregnant? We're using protection until we want to start trying for the next, so I've been pretty confident every month that my period is just late due to the random cycle lengths and hormones. But if you're actively trying or not using protection, it may be hard to know what the late period means unless you just continue to take a pregnancy test every week until you eventually get your period.
Like others said, you can also track your cycles by tracking your temp and ovulation (using an app like Fertility Friend), and that will at least give you an idea of when you ovulated and when you can expect your period to come.
Hope that helps!
