1st Trimester

Cramping in lower abdomen

I'm 5-6 weeks a long...(not exactly sure because I have always had irregular periods because of minor PCOS and I wasn't able to pinpoint when ovulation happened this last cycle) and won't have my first appointment with my OB until September 15th. I have been having twinges and minor pains in my lower abdomen/pelvis since about a week before I got a positive test. I'm guessing some of that was implantation cramping. Now I am experiencing what I imagine to be ligament pain, but also like a period cramping/burning/tight feeling in the same area. Is this normal pain from all the body changes going on or something to be concerned about?

Re: Cramping in lower abdomen

  • I had major cramping/bloating from week 5-7. As long as there isn't any spotting to go along with the cramping, it's a normal symptom.

  • I had a lot of twinges and stretching feelings from about the time of a week before my BFP. agree with the PP, if you aren't spotting you should be ok!

  • I had a lot of period like cramping around that time. Sometimes woke me up at night because it was so intense. As long as you're not spotting, its normal.

  • Some cramping is totally normal. Round ligament doesn't usually start in until closer to the 2nd tri.

  • I've had cramping since my missed period. Currently 5w4d. Pushed my doc to see me because I was worried about cramping. He said it's likely just pregnancy pains and normal with no spotting or bleeding.

Kind of worried today as my progesterone lab came back and is only 7.3.
  • I've been having the same kinds of feelings and I had it with my previous two babies as well. It's my first symptom before anything else!

  • Perfectly normal!!! please dont worry - I had what I thought was implantation cramping at week 4-5.  Well it probably wasn't, because more or less still having it (at 8w2d~) almost every day for a shorter time, mostly after eating or before having to go to the loo.   Your body is changing, think about it, if you are 6 weeks, there is already a ping pong ball sized extra stuff inside you - your body WAS full before, now other inner bits need to make space for the new stuff... of course it's uncomfortable slightly.  I find that gentle stretching and walking helps.  Good luck!!!!!
