NBR: I'm nervous about my mom

I just found out tonight my mom is being admitted tomorrow for a biopsy. She has a large mass in her chest blocking her windpipe and major artery.

I did some reading online (worst idea ever) and see its most likely related to an aggressive form of lymphoma.

My Mom had Stage 3 breast cancer and has been in remission for about 15 years. So we've been through this type of thing before.
But she's older now, so this scares me more.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge with this kind of cancer? I know we don't know for certain what it is... I guess I'm just really anxious. I feel sick to my stomach.

thank you for listening.

  • I'm sorry I don't have any advice regarding that type of cancer. Just wanted to say sorry that you're both going through this.
Thoughts and prayers coming your way.

  • I don't have an experience but I'm so sorry you are dealing with this.  Thoughts and prayers for you and your mother.
  • Hoping for good news, I'm sorry you have to deal with this. My mom has had melanoma and my dad had a brain tumor, so I've been there and it's so hard. Positive thoughts!
  • Praying for her and you. We are in the middle of a scare with our 12 year old daughter and waiting for it to be biopsied :(
  • I dont know how you feel nor fo i have experience with this but i will be sending prayers over to your mother & your family. Hugs

  • Scary! I hope everything is okay. Hugs to you and your family.
  • I hope you get good news soon. Thinking of you and your mom!
  • Thank you everyone.

We're waiting the results of the biopsy. The doctor said "this is concerning" when he looked at the CTE scan. WTF does that mean? Waiting is the worst.

  • Ugh. Why say things like that knowing that you & your mum have to wait for the results. Should have kept his mouth shut. Very insensitive.  I am sorry, I hope you don't have to wait long.
    *hugs
  • So, my mom does have lung cancer. We are waiting to hear her staging/treatment options. I'm not too optimistic as best case scenario were looking at a statistical survival rate of 49% of people with Stage 1 making it past 5 years. Because her has spread beyond her longs (there's quite a large mass in her chest) it's definitely beyond stage 1...and after that stage the statistics only get even more grim.

im an extrovert and a highly emotional person. I will probably use this board to get out my feelings. I'm not one to usually ask for sympathy/ empathy because I don't like to burden others or tell sob stories... But I will most likely really truly need all the support I can from family, friends and my favorite digital momma's. :)
  • Thank you for listening.
  • I'm so sorry to hear that. Cancer is the worst. I will be keeping your whole family in my prayers.

  • Prayers. I'm so sorry!
  • So sorry:( you can vent here anytime. I know it's sometimes easier to talk to strangers about this kind of stuff.
  • I'm so sorry your family is going through this. *hugs*
  • I'm so sorry :( we are here if you need to talk.
  • I'm so sorry! I'll keep your family in my prayers. Please keep us posted!

I'm a nurse and I have a lot of cancer patients, and I don't believe in statistics. The most important factor is the patient's will to survive. I've seen the exact same staging play out completely differently amongst different patients. Your mom has a supportive daughter and a beautiful grandchild who both love her to keep her spirits up, just keep reminding her of that. Keep a brave face for her and stay positive when you're with her, and come here to cry and say your worst fears to us! PM me if you need to.
  • Hugs momma!

I am so so sorry. Can relate to a parent having cancer. I'm so glad you feel you can use the board to vent and cry, or do what you feel you need to do. I've found this group of ladies very supportive in the past when I've went through a bad time with my mum.

Thinking of you sweetheart. I know what an extremely difficult time this is for you and your family. xo

  • Thank you everyone. Your kind words made my day.
  • I'm so sorry to hear you, your mom, and the rest of our family are going through this, @kmcshane0211 .  Sending positive thoughts and prayers to you.
