I just had my 12 week appointment today with my OB and she mentioned that at my 8 week ultrasound there was a dermoid cyst on my ovary. Since my baby sitter was a no show, I had my two toddlers with me so I didn't really ask too many questions. My OB didn't seem too worried about it and said that she will just check it again on my 20 week ultrasound. Has anyone else had experience with a dermoid cyst.
Ugh I have one too. And it grew between my 8 week ultrasound and today. They come from tissue left behind in the ovary and then grow from those cells. My midwife said that in most cases they aren't a problem. I am personally freaking out though because my mom, aunt, and grandmother all had the same. And in each of their cases it grew to the size of like an orange or larger and they had to have that ovary removed. So I'm guessing I'm just the next one in the family on that list - eek. Not to freak you out and turn this into my vent - they will probably just monitor it at your ultrasounds during pregnancy and then give you a postpartum ultrasound to make sure it stayed small!
I have, but not while pregnant. They will usually go away. Sometimes they will grow big and eventually rupture. I'm not sure what the protocol is when you're pregnant. But during my 6 week U/S I had a simple cyst that eventually went away. I think at this point you shouldn't worry too much. Your doctor will check at the next U/S if it's still there and if so, how big.
I had one on ovary when I was pregnant with my son. It was fairly large and I had it removed surgically when he was about 6 months old. About 2/3 of my ovary went with it. They were concerned that since it was large, it might get heavy enough to cause my ovary to twist. I haven't had any complications since then.

Ugh, I got a voicemail last night from my OB. When the MFM doctor looked at my ultrasound, he decided he wanted to do my next one live in the hospital with a doctor there watching. I wonder what that means?
