Exercise Ideas

Hi Everyone!
so I am thinking about my options for excerising while pregnant... My last pregnancy I gained 70lbs and this time around (having lost it all just about a year ago) I am trying to be more reasonable... Keeping my weight to the 30-35lbs suggested. However, I'm really nervous about working out since my previous pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. Does anyone have any good suggestions? For really safe ways to stay active? Right now I'm just walking.

I'm in the exact same position as you. 70lb gain with DS. He's 15 months and I still have about 10lbs to lose (obviously not actively trying to lose weight anymore).

So far I've just been walking 3 miles a day with DS. But starting tomorrow I'm going to do the 6 week Bikini Body Mommy workout. It's on YouTube and she's 5 months pregnant in it. So it sounds like she'll be giving modified moves so it's pregnancy friendly.

Here's the link to the first one if you're interested: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ms0I4vIXo1c

I have been doing beachbody programs since the beginning of the year. I go to hour long CIZE and Country Heat classes twice a week. I'm continuing what I did prepregnancy.  It's recommended not to start any intense cardio or workouts if you weren't before pregnant. After first tri you shouldn't do any exercises while laying on your back. I'm just following the rules of staying hydrated, listening to my body and still being able to carry on a conversation while working out. I plan to continue as long as I can and modify as needed!

Same; I've been doing Beachbody stuff for forever. Right now I'm doing 21 Day Fix so I'll probably just stick with that (not really feeling like Insanity is a good pregnancy choice, haha!). I know I'll have to modify as I get farther into it (nothing on the back, minimize twisting, etc.), but I'm not super worried about it. Last pregnancy, I was running a lot before I got pregnant, but had to stop during first tri because I had a lot of bleeding going on and my OB wanted me to err on the side of caution. I would up sticking to walking 10-12 miles a week and yoga 3-5 times a week, and managed to stay under 35 pounds as far as weight gain was concerned.

Basically, whatever you choose should be relatively low cardio intensity (unless your body is used to that) and something with minimal contact/risk of falling. As PPs have said, most important things are to listen to your body and stay hydrated.

I agree with what pp's have said so far. I'd like to add that working out does not contribute to a mc. And not working out won't help prevent one either. I'm sure you know that but thought it might make you feel better to hear it from someone else.

Don't stop walking, but add in some yoga too if you're comfortable with that.  Also it helps me to pack all my meals and snacks in advance. I try to include all the food groups and stay low on simple carbs and fats. I also try to include a little something for each kind of craving I might get.

Thanks everyone, I will definitely look into trying some yoga and continue to walk each day. I wasn't the most active person before getting pregnant lol- mostly I would jog about once a week, but I'm always walking since I work in the city and walk each day on my lunch hour. You are all very sweet! I appreciate the support.

I gained most of my weight the last month of pregnancy last year but luckily with my clean eating challenge I lost all of it and more without exercising. Since this was a surprise, I'm not in the shape I wanted to be before getting preg again but I'm going to continue my clean eating but also try to incorporate some yoga, and more walking once this heat goes away

I do Les Mills classes at the gym I go to, so I'm just going to try to keep up with those. I typically weight lift 2-3 times a week and cycle 2 times. I signed up for small group training this round which is going to be TRX/RIP training. This is my third time doing it and I love it!

I found an app!!! I may be a bit too excited about this, but it's the Prenatal Power 20 pregnancy workout, and you can pick which trimester you're in.

With DD, I swam laps in my second and third tri and I absolutely loved it.  I felt like a beautiful fat sea creature.  It was lovely.  I've also never felt so comfortable with my body in a bathing suit as I did when I was pregnant, which I was not expecting at all.

Tracey Anderson also has a month by month work out DVD set that I (loosely) followed when I was pregnant with DS.  It is good - but honestly a little challenging, if I remember correctly!

@stm2017 I'm definitely going to check out the Bikini Body Mommy workouts.  I was originally super put off by the name of her website (because it's ridiculous) but I watched a video and she is just SO LIKEABLE.  I'm sure not to everyone's taste but I thought she was super sweet and real without being cloying.  I had started doing her 90 day challenge just before my BFP, but there's no way I can keep that up while pregnant.  I forgot had some challenges she did while pregnant!  I like her videos because they're free, not-annoying, challenging without being impossible, include plenty of modifications, and require minimal equipment.

@JaneArson, yes! I love how real she is! I'm sick of doing workout videos where I'm being lead by some chick with a 6 pack. I love that she's sweaty, out of breath, and can't even complete some of the moves herself and has to modify! Today was day 2 of the 6 week challenge. It's not as high intensity. But that's what I need now!

@JaneArson @STM2017 I'll have to check those out as well! Thanks for the suggestion!
