Time to babyproof

No real rolling or mobility here yet, but at 5.5 months old, I think it's time we thought about babyproofing our house. Ugh. Any progress or tips? I'm especially interested in hearing how to keep baby away from the cats' food bowls (in the kitchen) and how to protect baby from our TV/computer areas (in our living room).

We're considering some kind of baby lock for kitchen cabinets we don't want LO to open, and maybe even a baby gate to keep him out of the kitchen so the cats can eat in peace. The computer and TV areas are what I'm most worried about.

We're planning on putting a baby gate up in the kitchen to keep baby out of the cabinets and dog food. As for the tv wire we stuffed some behind the sofa. The extra we got these wire cover things from Home Depot.

I'm so fortunate that the house DH and I bought 3 years ago happens to be fully baby-proofed. It came with gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, all the outlets have the covers that you have to slide to the right to reveal the outlet, kitchen cabinets have the magnetic pop locks on them, the toilet seats have built in baby seats for potty training, and there's even a diaper spray in the powder room bathroom next to the laundry room (even though we don't cloth diaper). All we plan on doing is putting some things away once she can crawl and maybe bolting a bookshelf to the wall. Makes me not want to move lol

We have our TV on a super sturdy cubby bookcase. Around our fireplace, we have one of the big baby gates like this: https://www.amazon.com/Regalo-192-Inch-Super-Wide-White/dp/B003VNKLIY/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1471311193&sr=8-1&keywords=Regalo+super+wide+gate which would work for in front of your tv.

Please (to all) secure your dressers, shelving units, etc to the wall!

We never had issues with our older kids getting into cubboards etc. What we were concerned about was the stairs. So we have always had baby gates on the top and bottom of stairs. But the nice metal swinging gates work the best for us. It locks, swings open and close. We just put our trash/dog bowls in the laundry room so our kids never got into it.
