Are numbers good or going back and forth? - They've been pretty good. I go today for a diabetes consult even though I've had it all along, this was the first appointment they had open!
Are you on any medication or diet controlled? - I was doing great diet controlled during the day but my fasting numbers were always high so I'm on Metformin.
GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? Have you ever got to see them in concert? - Pink! I saw her two years ago and it was amazing!!
How many weeks along are you? 32+1 w/ boy/girl twins
Are numbers good or going back and forth? Better this week. I'm really trying harder to limit my spikes. Baby A, my boy, has polyhydramnios (too much amniotic fluid). They say GD can cause it. We're watching it through weekly NSTs. Only 5.5 more weeks to go for me!!!
Are you on any medication or diet controlled? Diet controlled. I inquired about meds for the polyhydramnios, but they said since my numbers look good, I don't need meds. Baby B, my girl, has adequate amniotic fluid.
GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? Have you ever got to see them in concert?
James Taylor. And yes, he's awesome live. I also am a huge country fan, so Garth Brooks, way back in the day. I also LOVE Keith Urban's shows. He's underappreciated I think.
I just missed a Dixie Chicks concert. I didn't buy tickets as I'm so miserable and didn't think I'd be comfortable since it's so hot and humid here. I know people either love them or hate them, but I'm a fan of their music.
Favorite concert of all time was U2. My work gave me tickets a few years back, and I saw them from the skybox.
I'd also love to see P!nk, 3EB, Barenaked Ladies, and Darius Rucker.
Are numbers good or going back and forth? Today will complete my first week of tracking. Most of my post-meal numbers are within range, but my fasting numbers are 100% always bad. I feel really frustrated and out of control about this - at least when my post-meal numbers are high, I usually know the reason or feel like I could change that. I don't know how to change my morning readings. I've tried a bedtime snack with carbs, a bedtime snack with protein, a middle-of-the-night snack with carbs, and a middle-of-the-night snack with protein. I've also tried no snack after supper with the best (but still high) results, but I can't always do that because sometimes I get too hungry not to eat *something*. I also moved my later metformin (was taking with lunch and supper) to right before bed. Nope. Tonight I'm going to try drinking apple cider vinegar before bed. If that doesn't work, I have to add a third metformin.
Are you on any medication or diet controlled? I was already on metformin for metabolic syndrome associated with PCOS before my diagnosis, so technically medication controlled, although I had to alter my diet, too.
GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? Have you ever got to see them in concert? I don't really have a favorite. I don't listen to music that much. I watch television in the background. And if I did, I would never go to a concert. I like my sound nice and processed and I don't like being around people.
Are numbers good or going back and forth? Pretty steady for the most part. The only time they've been elevated is the fasting number and the highest it's been is 94.
Are you on any medication or diet controlled? They have trying to follow a diet, but I'm not great at doing that. Work doesn't allow time for snacks, it's not that they say I can't, we're just too busy to get away for one. The nutritionist didn't seem thrilled with that.
GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? Have you ever got to see them in concert? I've been a huge Limp Bizkit fan since middle school. My parents wouldn't let me see them then, but I've gone twice as an adult and even got to touch Fred Durst at one of the concerts. It was a total fan girl moment, this was just before he walked by me.
Hi-new to this GD thing. I'm a first time mom so its all kind of a whirlwind right now. I was diagnosed last week and met with the dietitian last week and the endocrinologist today.
I do have a quick question-I'm looking for snack ideas. I looked through some of the other boards and everyone kind of has the same list. Anyone have anything out of the ordinary that they have tried that is packed with protein? How many weeks along are you? 30 weeks and 3 days.
Are numbers good or going back and forth? Just started testing on Thursday so I have been learning what I can and cannot eat yet.
Are you on any medication or diet controlled? Right now just diet, but Dr is waiting to see how my numbers go in the next couple of days before she decides if I need the dreaded insulin or not. Apparently because I don't each much protein in my evening snack, that is keeping my fasting number from being in the acceptable range. GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? Have you ever got to see them in concert? I've got a list of favorites, but by far the best concert I attended was Garth Brooks last fall. Completely got our moneys worth in that show. He never slowed down once!
Are numbers good or going back and forth? Good for the most part. Still having the occasional spike 1-2 times a week that is entirely due to poor meal choices. I'm finding it really difficult to eat well at social events, even if I try to plan ahead.
Are you on any medication or diet controlled? All diet controlled for now, and hoping to stay that way. I just need to continue to tighten up my food choices a bit. Again, I'm pretty darn good when I'm eating by myself or DH and can control my meal choices. But I'm finding it really hard to avoid bread/flour, which is the one thing that seems to make me spike, when we're at BBQs/parties/other social events.
GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? Have you ever got to see them in concert? ADELE!!!!!!!! I refer to myself as an Adele hipster because I've loved her ever since she was on SNL in 2008 promoting 19. I got to see her in 2011 at a teeny tiny venue promoting 21 before her vocal chord issues forced her to cancel the rest of the tour, and it was the best concert ever. I get to see her again in a month at a way way larger venue and I am SO EXCITED.

Are numbers good or going back and forth? mostly back and forth I'm having a hard time to be honest but I have been working hard at what I eat.
Are you on any medication or diet controlled? I am medicated I started off at 4mg of insulin a day I am up to a 12. I've been feeling very sick the last 3 or 4 days I was going to call my Dr but not sure if it's just some kind of bug I caught.
GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? Have you ever got to see them in concert? I'm an un bias music listener I do hate dubstep (DH love the crap gives me a migraine) and country though lol. I know what I hate not what I like.

Snacks are my life. I got some nature valley protein bars......nuts with semisweet dark chocolate. Protein plus satisfies my sweet tooth. I also like the Special K protein bars. Bananas (or sliced apples) and PEanut butter are one of my go-to snacks when I am home. Greek yogurt is great as is cheese cubes.
I had an appointment with the diabetes counselor and MFM today. It went great! They both feel that I'll be able to control the GD with my diet. Baby is showing no signs of getting too much sugar, which I'm really happy about.
How many weeks along are you? 33+1 Are numbers good or going back and forth? Pretty steady!

GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? This is a tough one. I love music, but don't go to a lot of concerts. I'm a big fan of the Boss too @klv! I don't know that I have a favorite though, I'm not a superfan of anyone or any band really, although I do love Guns n Roses and my roller derby name was picked in honor after Axl Rose lol. I've seen him in concert with the new group, but it's not the same without Slash. DH tried to get us tickets for their reunion show with Slash, but it was just too expensive with the baby on the way.
@emk20102012 I also do the protein bars with the nuts and dark chocolate. My go-to though is a half of a whole wheat english muffin with PB. I also like to do string cheese or cheese cubes with a couple strawberries or other fruit. I really miss eating all the fruit I could possibly devour.
Oh my gosh @MrsB627! Were you shaking and freaking out? I can't imagine that having BG that low would be comfortable. FX that they can figure your medication out!

@simcal18 I freaked out and ate my sandwich (Sara Lee delightful bread) on the bus on the way to my summer camp field trip. Waited 20 mins and my sugar was at 109. Then like 45 mins later I had 2 little slices of pizza and my sugar was 109 two hours after that. The dr wants me to call tomorrow after my breakfast number and if it's too low, they are making me take half a pill because I'm on the lowest dose already. Seems to be I can eat a little different things but the medicine is working more than I thought! I've been controlling with diet this whole time and I need the meds only because my fasting numbers are always high.
@Michi1382 Sunmaid Sooooo good!! ... Numbers today were good except I went out to dinner with some co-workers before the school year starts and my 2 hour number was 150 -_- I wanted to see if I ate something different on this medicine for dinner if it would be lower but I was totally wrong!

My work surprised me yesterday with a diaper shower. And I ate everything, just a little bit of each though. My number at 1 hour was 151. I think that wasn't too bad, hope my dr feels the same!
@JessK1014 This is #3 for us, so no shower. But my cousin's bridal shower was last Saturday. I ate everything but the bruschetta because I wanted a sandwich. My number was still ok. I plan to eat everything at her wedding too. I figure an indulgent meal every once in awhile is ok.
@JessK1014 I don't want to encourage anyone to be reckless but, my doctor told me she wasn't worried if my numbers are high a couple times a week...with Type 1 at least, which is impossible to always keep within normal range and much less in pregnancy. I'd be more concerned with feeling yucky from eating too much and going high. At my shower it was mostly light food and I just ate a little of everything. By dessert time I wasn't even hungry for anything but I def had dessert later!
@waterfall213 This is #2 & #3 for us, so I wasn't expecting anything at all. I appreciate it though, and I know the diapers will definitely come in handy for twins especially.
I feel that way too, that the occasional indulgence isn't too bad. I really shouldn't have had a cupcake, but the rest of the shower food wasn't too overly sweet, so they tried hard to accommodate the GD.
Sigh. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about my shower yet. Originally I was thinking that I would allow myself moderate portions of things, including a small piece of cake. But I am SO sensitive to bread at this point that I am terrified of how high even a small piece of cake would send me. I agree that an occasional indulgence is probably fine. We are human after all, and for the most part the real complications of GD come from sustained high blood sugar, not the occasional 1-2 hour spike (although if you have too many baby can apparently get used to those spikes and have trouble regulating blood sugar after birth.) But I have already had a couple of "indulgences" lately that resulted in spikes -- a couple of small slices of pizza at a social event, a croissant when I was DYING for pastry -- and I don't quite feel like I've "earned" another one yet. My shower is in 10 days. Maybe if I can eat super clean and keep my BG down until then I can relax a little bit that day.

@JessK1014 I wasn't judging showers for subsequent pregnancies, I hope it didn't come across that way! I would honestly love if someone would throw me a sprinkle to get all those little things you need each time, plus diapers and wipes. But I would never suggest it, lol.
The shower menu was planned before my diagnosis, but we're having pizza, mostacholi (sp?), bread sticks, wings, salad, and cupcakes. I can either not eat or just risk a spike. My numbers have been good up until yesterday and today, but we'll see how they do over the next week before I decide.
I definitely cheat at special occasions, but I really try to just have a little of whatever it is to satiate my taste buds. My first shower we had a burger bar so I just did protein style and a salad so that I could indulge in the sweets a little bit. My next shower is all cheeses and charcuterie so I'm loading up on the cheese and will probably have a little of whatever the dessert is.
@mrsb627 I did the same thing after my doctor put me on medication (metformin) and thought I'd see if I could get away with a little more... I was sadly wrong too. I did find that after a few days it seemed to kick in a LITTLE bit, but not enough to make a real difference in my diet and carb/sugar allowance.
How many weeks along are you? 32 Weeks today Are numbers good or going back and forth? They've been good. Nothing above the range I was given, and I've been pretty controlled with my diet, but I will definitely be having a piece of cake at my shower today. Popcorn and pasta seem to be my triggers. Are you on any medication or diet controlled? Diet controlled. My fasting numbers have always been good. Have you ever got to see them in concert? Carrie Underwood... I wish. Reba has always been one of my favorites too, and that was the first concert I ever went to (when I was 8).
My doctor told me if I need to make the baby kick I could cheat and have a soda and just not count the next measurement. Haven't done that, though.
@uponastar16 I feel you on the carbs. When I got the GD diagnosis, I immediately started cutting carbs and was getting my post-meal numbers pretty much under control. My dietitian gave me carb goals, and my post-meal numbers are now high. Thanks, lady.
We added a third metformin and so far it has not affected my fasting numbers whatsoever =( I'm waiting for a call back from my doctor's office to see what they want to do about it. I just worry I'm poisoning my baby.
My best friend is a baker and she's making my cake so she's making a sugar free one from scratch. Food wise, I'll stick to my proteins and probably have a little macaroni because I miss it lol but a very small amount so I don't spike my sugar. I do eat brown rice pasta but I'm thinking regular macaroni lol
I just had my first major fail. I've been able to have some rice but have been getting fried rice with my Chinese. Tonight they had white rice, and man it was yummy. 1 hour later, I'm at 181. I feel so guilty now, especially since Baby A has polyhydramnios. Hubby says not to worry about one spike, but I know you guys understand better what we are all battling everyday.
@JessK1014 I get bummed if I get a spike too but I'll mark down the food and stay away from it. Sometimes I'll try it a second time if the spike was too high and if it spikes again, I'm done with it. I've learned I can eat the same thing two days in a row and have two totally different results. Don't be too hard on yourself! Learning all this is a short amount of time is hard enough!
@JessK1014 Oh man, rice always does it for me too. I get the guilt, just try not to beat yourself up too much about it. Have some water and go for a little walk, that helps my numbers come down a little and eases my nerves/guilt.
Not sure if I am even having a shower, if we do it will be after he or she arrives my culture does not believe in it. Basically babies are new life and we are only aloud to celebrate after.
How many weeks along are you? 33 Are numbers good or going back and forth? They are not at goal, not bad though. My MFM wants my pre meal and fasting numbers between 60-90. That has only happened once. He wants my post meal under 120. They are usually under 130, so not too bad. I was on 14 units of long acting insulin AM and 10 units PM. It didn't change my numbers much at all. I do have less post meal spikes though. Unmedicated I had some post meal spikes as high as 160. Thursday he increased my insulin to 22 units of long acting and 8 rapid acting AM and 20 long acting PM. Still not much change in my numbers. I'll call the office monday to see if they want to adjust my insulin again. My next appointment is Thursday. The upside is my OB isn't too worried and helps to calm me down when I get frustrated that the meds seem to do nothing. I see my OB Tuesday. Are you on any medication or diet controlled?

GTKY - Who is your favorite singer? Have you ever got to see them in concert?
I've been really liking Megan Trainor lately, never seen her though.
