TTC After a Loss

Intro with question- *CPs mentioned*

Hi! I'm not sure how trigger warnings work on this board, but I fighured I'd include one just in case.

DH and I have been TTC for a year and a half. We've been doing fertility treatments the whole time due to my PCOS. This summer we've had back to back chemical pregnancies (June 20 and last Thursday- we took one cycle off in between per doc's request.)

I have an appointment tomorrow to confirm the CP and talk about plans.

I feel completely guilty for my emotions about this. The first CP left me completely devistated, but recognizing that I probably have progesterone issues (always lower than 10 at 7dpo) has made the second one slightly less devistating. DH and I were also very guarded this cycle.

I do have a question for anyone that has any insight:

Do I actually have to take the next cycle off if my HCG is below 5 and we are feeling emotionally healthy? If our doc (RE) says we have to have 3 before testing, I'd rather try to get the third one out of the way.

Re: Intro with question- *CPs mentioned*

  • I'm so sorry you've us here. My RE let me do Clomid cycles immediately following my CP, as long as it was under 5.

@IowaLove89 Welcome and I'm sorry you're here. We don't require trigger warnings on this board for posts about MC bc unfortunately that's why we are all here. The only time a TW is really called for is a BFP or maybe talk about living children, but most people don't TW living children if it's just a causal mention. I probably would just avoid complaining about how your kids are driving you crazy  without a TW though if you are lucky enough to have them!

As far as if you should wait after a CP, it's totally up to you. It would just come down to whether you would skip a cycle or 2 to do RPL testing. I was able to get RPL testing after 2 MCs, but I'm AMA. The new ASRM guidelines do say that you can do RPL testing after the 2nd MC bc the percent of women who have 2 and 3 MCs in a row are so close. It doesn't hurt to ask for RPL tests and see what they say.

Good luck to you and feel free to stick around as long as you want!
  • I'm so sorry you have to join us. I don't have any experience with  CP, but I am sure many women here can share their wisdom with you.
  • I'm sorry that you are joining us. I don't have any experience with a confirmed CP, but a week after my MC I had a ultra sound to confirm everything was clear and my MW said we were good to start TTCAL as soon as we felt ready. We waited just over 2 weeks and then started with NTNP. My advice is always to make sure you're really ready to be pregnant again and deal with whatever comes with that before TTCAL or NTNP. In hind sight I definitely was not ready because about a month later I got a BFP and then started bleeding a few days later and passed some tissue and cramping which lead me to believe it was another MC. I couldn't handle it at the time and so I never went to have things checked out and confirmed, and I should've.

  • I'm sorry for your losses. To answer your question, none of us are your doctor, so we can't tell you if you have to wait. However, for me my OB said the old recommendation was to wait 3 months, but with recent research the new recommendation is to wait one cycle so you have an accurate LMP to date the pregnancy. So my OB (and RE) said with an uncomplicated miscarriage/CP, it's best to wait for a regular AF, but we don't have to. And since we're already experiencing infertility and I'm 35, there's no problem starting right away so we don't waste more time.

After those conversations, we found out mine was ectopic and I needed meds to treat it. The meds are very harmful to a fetus, so I did have to wait a calendar month for that to clear my system. For you, though, it's definitely worth pushing back on your doc for why you must wait or getting a second opinion.
  • @EverythingsBetterOutside thanks for your response! I know no one can give me medical advice but my doctor- I was just hoping someone had some scientific insight so I could have a better understanding when I saw my doc today. Everything I read seems to be different. Thankfully, you cleared that up a bit for me. Thanks!
