Any RNs on here?

I'm a nurse on a busy pediatric cardiology unit. I still have a month before I go back to work, but I'm really starting to stress about pumping at work. I just don't know how much I'll be able to slip away to pump. It's not that I wouldn't be "allowed" to go pump, it's just that I don't know how realistic it will be to pump every 3 hours. Any other nurses have experience with pumping at work? I'm so afraid my supply will decrease!

  • I'm not a nurse, but like with any other job, you'll have to make it a priority to excuse yourself to pump. You have the advantage of working in an environment with kids, so I'm sure your coworkers will be understanding.

    I am!

I actually work in a public high school though and I have a room in my office I can use to pump. There will still be days that are crazy and will be tough, but nothing like a hospital! Plus- my days are only 7.5 hours.

...might I suggest becoming a school nurse? ;)

  • Nurse here! I am a nurse at a critical care hospital I do acute and rehab 12 hr days. They made a lactation room recently for ppl to pump.I have not returned to work yet and I have no idea how its going to work. My med pass runs from 8-10 usually and 10 is when I start charting but that would be when I would need to pump. I'm allowed 2 15min breaks and 1/2 lunch. As we know how often do nurses get the wo 15min breaks.
