Non-traditional morning sickness question

I am pregnant with my first and undergoing thus far a bout of debilitating morning sickness for the past month. My question is: HOW do you guys have a 2nd child? I can't even think of going through this again. Are you superhuman???

  • I was thinking about this the other day... I'm far enough away from my last pregnancy I was to the point of, "Surely it can't be as bad as I remember."
    Turns out... It is.
THIS. Exactly this. And also- I'm significantly more exhausted this round.
  • I knew it was going to be as bad as I remembered it, but the further you get away from the MS (even as you get into 2nd/3rd tri, you get wrapped up in the newest stage and don't really care what happened in the past stages. Personally though, I really want to have more than one kid, so I decided my suffering is worth it.

  • Cereal, tv and a trampoline (for the kids). The trampoline is like a big play pen. I stick some balloons on there and they're happy while I get sick. Also painting. They love to make a mess. So I let them paint outside.

Theh wh lots of premade snacks and fun kid food they aren't usually allowed.

Then I enforce nap time and sleep with them :)

we we used to want 4 kids but now I'm thinking that 3 is plenty... So it is hard for sure. But hopefully you will find some helpful tactics for your next pregnancy OP ;)

  • I am a FTM as well so take what I say with a grain of salt but I just wanted to pitch in and say that not every pregnancy is the same even with the same person! My mom said that she had horrible morning sickness with one pregnancy and zero MS with her second pregnancy! So maybe you will get lucky!  ;)

I have two boys and am the most sick I've ever been this third time around. Somehow it just works out, I'm able to take care of myself and them. We have a lot of days where we are home all day and don't get much done, but some days I'm throwing up in the car while we are driving home from a fun activity. The kids don't seem too bothered by the fact that I'm throwing up all the time as long as they have a tv show on or they are fed and happy. You truly forget how miserable and tired you are by the time it's time to get pregnant again. I want another one because of all of the positive memories and the love that comes with them and that's mostly what sticks in the forefront of your mind!
  • It is tough especially when having a 3 year old at home. But I know it is all worth it in the end! :)
  • With my age and my egg quality, we've talked about jumping right back in once this pregnancy is complete - as we've always wanted two. I can't say I'm super on board with going back to it within such a short period of time. It did take 6 months of IUI procedures to get this far, so maybe I'll get a little break, but MAN I don't think I can do this again - I can't function worth sh*t at work & spend most of my time at home curled up in a ball trying not to puke...

  • When you add to it a colicky baby who never slept, it took almost three years to regain the courage.

  • Thanks for the solidarity, guys. Some of these posts have me all teared up!!

  • I don't know how I did it. I was like "never again - no way" until I stopped breastfeeding. Once life got back to normal - I guess you forget. Part of me just really wanted a friend for baby 1, I think. It was all about baby 1 and I thought "I could never love another as much as this one!" But baby 2 is so scrumptious, adorable and fun too! Now I never want to stop! I want like 6! (But I won't)
  • I have a question. My MS is out of control this time. I am vomiting every day, and I am one of those people who would rather lie still and be nauseated than throw up. I haven't asked for help from my midwife yet, but I'm ready to. Do you ladies tough it out and puke every day, or do you take zofran or something else that helps a little? I've tried all the home remedy stuff and I'm not finding relief. The thought of 7 more weeks of this is killing me a little bit.
  • I am not going to lie, it's rough. I have a 3 yr old, 2 yr old and 9 mo old. I am so incredibly sick. I haven't eaten a full meal in 3 days. I just can't eat anything. The medication totally knocks me out so I can't take anything or else I wouldn't be able to take care of my little ones. Nothing natural has helped and some have made things worse. All I can say is that once you already have a baby, you know how ridiculously worth the pain and sickness that they are... Maybe that's what drives us to fight through. Or it could be the fact that we have no choice but to endure
  • I have a 17 month old baby boy. Love him to pieces and I know it's worth it. Still though... Ginger ale and Peggie pops are not cutting it today
  • @MauiQuickie have you tried B6+unisom? It has done wonders for me.

  • For real. I was SO one and done until we got our little surprise :)

With DS I had morning sickness with vomiting all.nine.months. I swore never again. This time around I've had a ton of nausea, but have only puked once. So, I'm already way better than last time around.

  • I wanted to chime in that some ladies are lucky enough to feel GREAT in 2nd tri.  With both my daughters I felt better in 2nd tri than I did NOT pregnant!  So it will get way better.  Hang in there!  Plus when you have a nice little baby belly, everyone in the world treats you like a queen.

And ditto, the babies are worth every bit of the puking and yes I forgot just how much it sucks to feel sick in the beginning... But looking forward to hitting 16 wk, which has been a magic number for me.
  • @MauiQuickie I take zofran, albeit as little as possible. I manage to get away with only throwing up once or twice a day with a 1/2 pill of zofran in the morning.

  • No I haven't! Do I need a prescription?
  • @MauiQuickie  B6 helped me a bit but if it's really bad my OBGYN said there's the prescription Diclegis. If you call your doc they can give you a prescription for it. I hope you feel better soon! We're toughing this one out together.

  • Thanks everyone! You ladies have saved me. I tried half a Unisom tab last night and this AM I haven't had any nausea! I'm hoping it lasts! Now I can function so much better.
  • I feel so lucky. Not thrown up once and my ms has been pretty mild. I am still functioning pretty much as normal albeit a bit more tired. Just know that time is inevitable and this stage will pass!
