HSG and O questions

For anyone who's had an HSG, I have a couple questions:
1. Did it hurt you a lot?
2. If it was very painful, did you have partially or completely blocked tube(s)?
3. Did you ovulate as expected that cycle? If not, were you early or late and by how much?

I had my HSG last week, and was terrified of the pain from what I'd read. It wasn't bad for me, and my tubes were both open (I've since read that the pain may be related to pressure due to blockages). If there are a lot of people who it WASN'T painful for, maybe that can help allay the fears of others about to undergo the procedure.

My O date seems to be late this cycle. I got a positive OPK on CD14, but I'm now on CD18 without a temp shift. I have once before had 2 LH surges a cycle, so that may be happening now, just wondering if it may be related to the HSG. This is also my first cycle post ectopic, so it could very well be that, but curious about other's experiences

Re: HSG and O questions

  • My tubes were open and my HSG was excruciating. And I had taken T3's beforehand. My friend had an HSG and wasn't very bothered by it. I guess there's no way of knowing

  • I O'd later than normal the cycle I had my HSG
  • My tubes were open with no blockages.  The actual procedure wasn't bad.  The shot to numb it pinched a little, but again, nothing terrible.  You will leak.... a lot.  Everything they put up in you has to come out.  I have a pretty high pain tolerance, and made the terrible decision to go back to work afterwards.  Fast forward to a few hours later when the numbing shot wore off and I about f'ing died.  Walking hurt, almost passed out when I sneezed, and driving home hitting a bump was excruciating.  I made DH come help me out of the car when I got home and was a bit sore the next day.

I did ovulate a little later than usual, or that could have been the month I didn't O at all, I can't remember, it was a year ago.

You can definitely drive yourself to/from but call it a day afterwards.
  • It didn't hurt much for me, just some cramping during the procedure itself.  I felt fine after and I think I ovulated like normal.
