The slacker thread

Saw this on August 16 and thought we could use one of these too! While I'm super impressed with the nursery/craft thread and everyone who has their hospital bags packed, I want to hear from our procrastinators as well! What do you still have left to do?

Re: The slacker thread

  • Oh lordy...
Get my ROE from my health authority for maternity benefits
    Get my car interior detailed
    Install car seat base
    Put up wall frame collage
Deep clean house (hired someone for this, thank goodness)
    Freezer meals
    Baby shower
    Organize/wash baby shower gifts
    Write thank you notes
Sand/paint and install new drawer pulls on change table
    Pay the maternity/newborn photographer
    Finish packing hospital bag
    Book birthing classes
    Get Tdap immunization
Study for/Write my NCLEX (nursing boards)

So much of this is going to have to be done in late Aug/early Sept, because my NCLEX exam is on the 24th and dear GOD I have not studied enough. Which makes me anxious so what do I do? Procrastinate by trying to prep for baby, which leads to more anxiety because I'm not studying... the struggle is real.

  • I still have to move to a new house so my list is gigantic. Starting with packing. So tired already :(
  • I don't want to make a list because I think that will make it even scarier and more overwhelming. But....I have so much to do. We still need to buy a bunch of stuff, including a crib and dresser. I also need some personal products for myself for postpartum and a few other baby essentials.
  • While I feel we are slowly pulling it together.. There is still a ton of stuff I need to do. I need to be productive over the next 5 weeks but I hope they go by quick.

    Start packing hospital bags
    wash baby clothes
    Sterilize bottles
    install car seat bases
    have baby shower
organize all baby shower gifts/ thank you notes
get a plan together for boys in the event of unexpected labor before SIL gets here

Wahh...good to know we share similar To Do's...and some items on your lists serve as reminders for myself.
    • Clean out kitchen cabinets (throw out expired stuff) to make room for a baby bottle shelf
    • Organize/donate/put away my clothes which are stacked high on a couch in the garage
    • Put my shoes/sandals away because they no longer fit (strewn about floor of garage)
    • Order Owlet (will do so next week, since has 30 day return policy and would prefer to have an open return window after we've been able to use it and see if we like it)
    • Box up our books from the nursery closet/former office to make room for the diapers which are haphazardly stacked along LO's new little shelf
    • Clean out car and move hospital bag/suitcase to car
    • Contact puppy's foster mom to see if she's avail for dog sitting when we're at the hospital
(Totes procrastinating on anything not nursery related b/c the other sh-- just isn't as fun.)
(And I'd a hundred thousand times rather hang out on this BMB than take care of anything house related.)

  • I have a ton to do but gravitate toward meaningless chores like cleaning out and organizing closets. I think it's bc I can manage a small area and feel accomplished. But I'm leaving big gaps and we have 8 days to go until I'm induced!
  • Pack my bags, put the car seat/stroller together, open the pack n play, open and put hr swing together, boil bottles, get nursing clothes, order my breast pump.  I'm sure there's more I just can't think.

Yup this here too! And we're team green so I have to pick both  I wouldn't say I'm "prepared" but I feel confident with what I've done, this is #2 in less than 2 years so most stuff was already done, what's not is not a worry to me anymore. But I'll be making my padsicles tonight ;-)

  • Oh my, I feel like I still have everything left to do.
    Set up crib
Go through/organize all gifts from shower
    Wash/organize baby clothes
Buy additional things that we didn't get from shower (monitor, more diapers, etc etc etc)
    Go to birthing classes
    Pack hospital bag
Read a freaking book? I have no clue about anything.
Finish thank you notes from shower
    Install car seat
Put together stroller and Pack n Play

.... and about 1000 other things. I wish I could just snap my fingers and it would all be done!!

  • Everything!  LOL.

No for real...  My nesting bug is non-existent with this pregnancy.  Probably because every time I walk up a flight of stairs I need to sit down to rest until my crotch stops throbbing.  It's awful.  I've bought a bunch of stuff, but her room is still a shambles.  Nothing is assembled, nothing is washed.  I'm figuring she'll be in the rock 'n' play in our room for a couple months after she's born anyway, so as long as I've got some diapers on hand then the rest will come together later.

I am the complete opposite of how I've been with my last two.  It's very strange.

  • I also have to pick a name.  As well as finish the nursery, install the car seat, finish packing my hospital bag, put the boys' overnight bags together, set up the pack and play (and wash those sheets), set up/mount the video monitor and prep some food for while I'm in the hospital/just coming home.

I still have 6 weeks, which is PLENTY of time, right?!?
  • Ah, finally. A thread that speaks to me!

    To do:
    • Finish washing, folding, and organizing baby clothes
    • Put away remaining shower gifts
    • Organize & deep clean entire house
    • Clean cars
    • Install car seat bases
    • Finish hanging art in baby's room + set up bedding
    • Clean pack & play + other misc. baby items
    • Pack hospital bag
    • Pre-register at hospital
    • Relax
TLDR: Our entire house is a chaotic mess & we have tons of stuff to do.
  • I have SOOO much to do! I was put on bed rest at this point exactly last time, and I was 90% ready. Hopefully that doesn't happen this time because I have a long list of to dos!

    - Pack Hospital Bag & Bag for DS
    - Wash Newborn Clothes
    - Get Baby Stuff Out of the Attic, Wash & Set Up ( car seat, pnp, bouncer, etc)
    - Clean Out DS's Room and Move Newborn Stuff to Nursery
    - Finish Setting Up Nursery
    - Buy Double Stroller
    - Buy Newborn Essentials (e.g., diapers, gas drops, new pump parts and bottle nipples)
    - Buy Postpartum Supplies
    - Set Up Newborn Photos
    - Make Freezer Meals

Lots of non-baby things like go to the dentist, eye doctor, groom the dogs, clean out the car, etc.

    Oh and potty train DS

  • So glad I'm not the only one. We've made progress the last two weeks which I am so proud of, but still lots to do:

    • name this baby!!! people keep saying "you'll know when you see him", but we at least need ideas.
    • install carseat bases
    • organize and decorate nursery
    • pick a pediatrician (we've applied to one and are waiting to hear back)
    • take a breast feeding class
    • set up pack and play
    • finish hospital bags

Things I would like to do but probably won't happen unless he's extremely late:

    • Install a closet system in the nursery
    • Declutter and organize the rest of the house
    • Open the box my breast pump came in and learn how to use it

All of this is after the Olympics are over, obviously.

  • Oh my gosh, I have to find a pediatrician! Baby needs a doctor, and the thought hadn't even crossed my  mind yet. CUE PANIC.
  • I have been looking into pediatricians and, at least around here, I have been told that pediatricians will come introduce themselves in the hospital and you can do a meet and greet and decide then...I have been looking around here for pediatricians and asking if I can interview with them and I keep being told that I'll meet them or least someone from their group in the hospital. I'll be doing a home birth so my situation is different, but I think you ladies may not have to worry so much?
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo I'm glad the Olympics is on because I have started to worry that I am going to run out of Netflix. I think my number one priority should be prioritizing, but I get too overwhelmed. Then I really just want to fall asleep.
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo I'm the exact same way. When my to do list starts to be too overwhelming, I shut down and do nothing. It's so counter intuitive. You would think I would do something off the list to make it better, but no.

  • Sbrown721 it's different in my area. Most offices have an application process that takes at least a few weeks, so they recommend you apply and get accepted into the practice early.
  • @Sbrown721 I put off looking for a pedi until week 32 and found most of them were not taking any more newborns for September. So I don't know if it's a thing in my area or if it's a thing with the couple that were a available but I was told the same thing. The doctor will meet you and baby at the hospital, no chance for a meeting before, which annoyed me because we have a couple genetic health concerns that we would like him to be aware of and see if he would handle them (they're rare diseases). On the plus side, since he's not my first choice, I didn't care as much since I'm hoping to get on a waiting list with someone else.

Ditto. Hopefully closing on our home August 15th.

Other than the gifts I've received from my baby showers, I have done and purchased nothing.

It's OK because I'm not into having an elaborate nursery or anything and we have the basic stuff we need (pack n play, car seat etc) but my nesting instinct is really kicking in and I have no way to release it except packing/cleaning my current apartment.

Oh and all our gifts are at my mom and aunts house because we had nowhere to store them! All we have on us are the bare necessities.
  • Well I just got caught up on submitting my daycare receipts for my dependent care FSA. I haven't submitted a receipt since February!  And that is a task I actually get paid to do. Now how long will it take for me to do the tasks that have very little financial incentive?

Me too!! I started to make my list of to-do's the other day, got overwhelmed, stopped and watched Preacher instead. Not helpful at all!! I did buy my first nursing bra the other day so I'm calling that a win.
  • Ah man, this thread makes me feel so much better! HA! I got the urge recently to make a list of every little thing I wanted to clean in each room and it was 4 pages long... Lets just say I had a panic attack that night. I have been slowly working on it here and there but I am so tired!!! LOL Hubby has been a great help though. I still need to buy a second car seat base for my car, install the car seat, pack hospital bag... I just had my baby shower yesterday and got lots of cute clothes and bedding for the baby so I need to now wash and organize all of that. We need to find a pediatrician. I know there is more but I am drawing a blank at the moment.

Making this list is going to overwhelm me
     - Clean out the cars
    - Find the car seat bases and install them
    - Clean the car seat, swing, and boppy covers
    -Deep clean our bedroom
-Deep clean our closets (have to purge stuff now that we don't have a guest room!)
    -Pack hospital bag
    -Preregister at the hospital
    -Buy diapers
    -Unpack and wash bottles
    -Clean pacifiers
    -Order breast pump

NBR stuff that nonetheless has to happen before the baby comes...
-Pick out a new car (ours is being recalled and the buy back is in October, so we want to be ready with a choice)
-Throw a 2nd birthday party for our first child. And all that goes with that.

  • I keep getting reminders on my bump app to find a paediatrician. Where I live the ped sees your newborn in the hospital if there are complications or other issues (PKU, jaundice, heart defects etc) and takes on baby's care if necessary after discharge, but for healthy baby's we just get followed by our GP. Interesting to see the differences around the world though.

  • @marikkita12 Totally progress! After our wedding I did 10 a day, got them done in about a week. 2 more days of 8 a day and you'll be almost done! Nobody expects you to get them done less than a week after the party :P Celebrate the little things girl!

  • I was doing good until we decided to move 3 weeks ago. We are moving this weekend so I have to start the girls room over. Luckily the baby clothes are already clean and sorted. Trying to pack with a 3 year old in August heat 3 weeks before delivery is the worst thing ever!
