I bought one at 14 weeks my last pregnancy, and was always able to find the heartbeat. I've tried using it a couple of times so far, this pregnancy, but it's still too early. You're really not supposed to try to find the heartbeat until like 10 to 12 weeks. I always found it to be fun and comforting, whenever DD wasn't moving enough.
@minger86 Darn I was hoping I would get lucky and be able to find one this early. I knew I was pushing it though. But my first appointment is Wednesday, and im not 100% sure that I'm not further along than I think I am.
Sometimes it can be up to 14 - weeks depending where your placenta is. My friend brought a fetal doppler and could hardly ever find the hb. Be careful as you can cause more worry then they solve. And dont buy a cheap one, some of them will pick up a hb on a lamp.
@clairemwalker I really only bought it to play with, as I figured it wouldn't work well. I bought it used from a lady and only paid $10. I did try it last night but was only able to pick up my heartbeat. However, I have my first appointment with my OB tomorrow so I am not worried about it. Plus its too early to detect with a home Doppler
I am overweight and bought the Sonoline B doppler for $30 at 14 weeks, and have never had a problem finding baby's heartbeat. I told my OB I had one at home, and she didn't seem to mind at all. It's good reassurance, especially since I haven't been able to feel kicks yet, and I'm 21 weeks.
Another recommendation for the Sonoline B. I also never had issues finding the hb.

I bought an Angel Sounds one. It was used, and I know im still early and probably won't be able to pick it up for a few more weeks but I'm excited to have it to play with.
Sonoline b is amazing. I found at 7 weeks 6 days last pregnancy. But then didn't find it for two days lol. It was very fast, so I knew I found the baby's heartbeat. Good luck!
