Appointments week of August 8

RIP Mona Lisa.  I'll take over from here.

Who's all up in your business this week??

Re: Appointments week of August 8

  • I have my first sequential screening tomorrow (I think. I need to call the ins. company and make sure it is covered) and the NT scan I think. Did anyone else opt for the sequential screening? Or does that just go hand in hand with the NT scan? I'm already having a panic attack, I hate having my blood drawn. Also - I heard that genetic testing can also give you the sex of the baby, would these tests fall under that category?

I'll be going in on Friday morning. It's actually a different office than my first appt, so I'm not sure what we will be doing. I had to switch offices because my insurance is horrible. I already get the feeling that I'm not going to like this office so I'm pretty nervous.
  • I have an appointment with the perinatologist (who is separate from my current OB) on Friday morning for the NT scan.

  • @jlellis603 the NT screen blood work does not test for the baby's sex, but depending on whichever other genetic screenings you're having, you may find out the sex.  It's a little hard to tell what they're giving you from what you describe, but I've never heard NT screening described as "sequential screening."  So maybe you're having two different screenings.

I have to say, I know I'm the only one who had to do a finger stick at home for the NT screening, and I made a big deal about how nervous I was about doing it, but I'm really glad that's over and done with.  I sent that blood work in to the lab over a week ago.  My mom did the finger stick for me (she's an anesthetist, so it worked out great), and it was really easy.  Much better than the 928343908423 vials of blood they took at my first prenatal appointment.
  • @jlellis603 it sounds like you're having the integrated screen done (NT scan/ultrasound plus the associated blood work). I'm having both of those done on Thursday. I called and checked with the lab to verify if I would be finding out the sex and they said I would not. Maybe call yours and see what exactly they have you down for? It may also help for you to know all the info about what tests you're getting when you call your insurance :)
  • 12 week checkup on Friday!

  • No appointments this week...  But I'm in waiting mode from my MaterniT21 blood draw on Friday.  The NP said it could take up to two weeks to come back.  Did anyone else have this done and have to wait that long?

  • I have blood work, including panorama this Wednesday. Also, I believe they are having me do the dreaded glucose test the same day, although I don't remember it being so early last pregnancy (almost 5 yrs ago). I am excited and nervous about the panorama, because I think I can find out the sex of the baby when we get the results in 2 weeks!

  • Going to my first perinatologist appt in an hour.

  • Just finished the NT scan, which looked great. Size is great, baby was rolling all over the place. They looked at one vein to examine the heart development, and that did not go as perfect. Dr said it looks like a 50% chance of some sort of heart defect, and that he wouldn't stress about it until we do a more in depth look at the heart at 18-20 weeks. Right... I'll just not think about that all, lol.

  • @NiceyMeany on man does this mean they are pricking my finger instead of drawing blood? I don't know which one is worse...gulp...

@srscott3 that sounds exactly what I signed up for haha! I just called my insurance company too and they gave me the green light woo! Can't wait to be pricked and to have blood drawn... good luck on yours!

  • I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm so excited to hear the heartbeat!!
  • @jlellis603 I don't think so.  I did the finger stick about 10 days ago and had to send it in to a lab for processing.  I did an informal poll here at the time, and it looks like most everybody else just has a normal blood draw!
  • I have an appointment with my OB tomorrow for a checkup and another appointment on Wednesday with MFM for NT scan.

Phew that's a relief! Blood draw, finger prick, and ultrasound at 7:30am did not sound ideal.

@NiceyMeany I did the at home finger prick too! I am a little embarrassed because I'll be a doctor in less than a year (eek!) and the finger prick freaked me out a little! I feel like I'd have no problem drawing my own blood but pricking my own finger was tough! Haha
  • I have a blood draw for the Panorama on Wednesday as well as the NT scan.  It feels
like it is taking forever to get here!
  • @Lafreeman21 I think that's a good idea to not think too much on it at this point and wait for something with some substantial. Thinking positive for you.

I had my 12 week today. I was glad to confirm the heart was still beating   CVS results and gender results later this week!
  • I had my NT scan today, and my finger pricked. I didn't really hear one way or another if anything looked okay...so here's to not trying to stress out over the next week or two.

On the positive side, we got to see a lot of baby today! They were moving around a lot which was so awesome to watch, and we heard the heart beat which is nice and strong at 161 bpm.

Forgive me for this one ladies....little one was measuring a half a week further along than what they have in previous ultrasounds. Is that pretty normal, or should I be worried? Sorry...first timer over here ;)

  • Just got back from my NT scan. They only took one vial of blood thank god, last visit the took 5. But we saw the baby for the first time today! I think I was in total shock. We are both first time parents so it's all new. It was just so surreal and huge on the monitor! I know it's only like 2 inches now but they made it seem so...big haha
  • Had our 14 weeks appointment on Monday and heard the heartbeat for the first time! Hubby cried he was so happy, it was amazing. Doc also said our little potato (household nickname for the baby) likes to move around a lot lol.

  • At my appointment today I scheduled my anatomy scan. Whatt!! Last time it felt like forever until I had it and now it's just a month and a week away.
  • @avriladorable07 Most likely LO's growth will ebb and flow some, so I wouldn't worry about it at all.  Most Dr's won't change the due date unless LO is measuring 2 weeks or so different.

I have an appt tomorrow, but it's going to be one of the more boring ones, weight, BP, measure my ute, and they'll probably try the Doppler.  Next month (at 18 weeks) they're planning another U/S to check my placenta (at 10 weeks I had complete placenta previa) and will do the blood draw for the MaterniT 21 test (they're doing way late in my opinion).  I'm hoping we'll be close enough to find out if it's a boy or girl next month, but my U/S tech is sometimes a stickler for not even trying to look until after 20 weeks.

  • I have an appointment today with my psychiatrist for medication management and I feel sooooo lazyyyy.

  • My appointment yesterday went really well. Doctor was happy with my weight gain (I was anxious about that) and got to hear baby's heartbeat for the first time. 3 weeks till my next appointment and 6 from today is my anatomy scan!

  • I have my NT scan tomorrow.  They said I need to start drinking 32 oz. of water an hour and a half before my appointment so I have a full bladder.  Hope I can make it.  It seems like I have to pee all the time lol.
  • I had an appointment this morning. Everything is great. We heard the heartbeat for the first time. 162 beautiful beats per minute. Scheduled my a/s for Sept 22nd. I can't wait!
Rachel, mama to Ava (6), Olivia (4), Nora (2), and baby#4 on the way.

  • Had my NT scan today and blood work. She said ultrasound looked good. Baby is 5cm and heartbeat was 161bmp. Baby wasn't cooperating at first and wouldn't lay flat so I had to flip over a few times to wake it up. Then it was doing flips and waving to us.
  • My appt went well yesterday.  Baby was running from the doppler but finally tried to hide in the corner so we heard the heartbeat at 143 bpm.  My Dr said the insurance has become much more specific about how immediate genetic defects must be in order for them to cover the genetic blood testing and we no longer qualify.  I honestly thought it was a pretty weak link for us to start us, so I'm really not surprised (my first cousins son, but I feel pretty confident the defect is from the father's side rather than my cousin's).

The real bummer is that she's decided not to do an US at my next appt.  She was initially planning to see if my placenta has moved any, but I know a lot of them don't move until after 28 weeks so the odds weren't good, but it would be nice to come off of pelvic rest and be able to pick my kids up again. :(  Also, since I was going to be 18 weeks, I was hoping we could find out if we're having a boy or girl so I could shop at the consignment sales in September.  I can still look for the big things I want, but was hoping to get some clothes too since we don't have anything left from our other 2 (we thought we were done).  Buying baby clothes new, even on sale is expensive!

  • Had my monthly check up today, heard the baby's heartbeat at 160 when it wasn't moving to avoid the Doppler!

Had my appt this morning to check back on the sch. It's gone! The baby looks great with a heartbeat of 146. I have to go back for an early Diabetes screening in 4 weeks do I'm hoping this time I don't have it. Very happy with how things went.

  • I've been kind of MIA since Monday when I mentioned my appointments this week. I had a midwife appointment Moday afternoon. First news was that going over my early ultrasounds they are changing my EDD from 02/14 to the 13th, not a big deal really. I was really excited about this appointment because they would be using the doppler to hear the heartbeat. Except she couldn't find the heartbeat. She assured me this was perfectly normal and she was not in any way worried. However my anxiety got the best of me and by the next morning I was in full on meltdown panic mode.
My midwife was out of the office though, so the administrator told me to call my Fertility Clinic and see if they could get me in even though they had discharged me a couple weeks previous. They were thankfully able to squeeze me in and they did a quick ultrasound. Baby is fine, and the heartbeat was 156.
I had my IPS (NT) scan yesterday and baby was moving like crazy. So much so it took twice as long to get all the measurements since he/she was moving so much.
I also forgot at the midwife appointment she told me I would be doing my glucose test a bit early (24weeks) because of the GD I had with my previous pg and bc of the PCOS. I will also be getting regular growth ultrasounds throughout the 2nd and 3rd tri so make sure baby's growth is on track. She mentioned the possibility of monthly u/s's but I really hope they're not that frequent.
