You read so many different things because everyone uses these differently and there have been so many different studies with different results.
I was advised by my nurse/midwife to avoid drinking RRL tea until 34 weeks and then have a glass a day until 38 weeks when I could try drinking 2 a day. When I asked her how effective it really was, she told me that some studies showed that there was some "strengthening effect" on the Uterus, which could mean a number of things from stronger contractions during labor to a faster shrinking Uterus after birth, but there's no guarantee and there have been no repeatable studies done to show 100% likelihood of benefits.
I was told to absolutely not use evening primrose oil until baby was full term at 38 weeks and was advised to use the pill form for only a short amount of time. Evening primrose oil can have mild inducing effects in some women so you definitely want to avoid this early on.
Absolutely talk to your doctor/nurse/midwife about these things before you use them. They'll have much better information than any of us will.
You should definitely talk to your care provider regarding the use of these. I started drinking one cup of red raspberry leaf tea at the beginning of the first trimester and will be increasing to 2 cups at 36 weeks. I am now also taking one evening primrose oil capsule at each meal (3 times per day) and pop one with a pin and insert it right before bed every night. I started this at 34 weeks. I am starting early because there are medical reasons that I will need to deliver on my due date at the latest. We are trying to get everything as ready as possible in case I need an induction (and are also trying to get me to go into labour without a medical induction).

I've never done RRL tea, but I've used EPO. Not until you're considered full term (37w). I took one tablet a day orally from 37 - 38w. Then I upped the game and also inserted a tablet at bedtime every night along with taking one orally. I don't think it succeeded in doing anything aside from increasing vaginal discharge.
My kids still came on their own schedule - 40w5d and 40w6d, respectively.
I like the taste of the RRL tea, but I really like tea. I think it might taste a little too herbal for most without some honey or sugar, I have also heard it might be better iced. I never asked my doc about it but I am basically following the advice of @Bibliobebe 's midwife based on what I have read online. Maybe it won't help at all, but I figure at this point it's not going to hurt anything!
This particular brand is supposed to be a little "spicier" than other raspberry teas, with cinnamon and allspice added, which sounds delicious to me. I usually drink my tea with a little raw turbine sugar. I realize that sounds super pretentious and I don't mean it to be, I just really like the taste of it compared to regular sugar, haha.
I hadn't even heard of this tea until this weekend (which was more entertainment value than tea talk LOL). has anyone found it at the grocery store vs buying online?
Do you have a Shoppers Drug Mart? I purchased mine there next to the prenatal vitamins. It was $6.00 for 30 bags. It specifically says on the box that it's for pregnancy and gives a list of how many cups etc. Though ask you OB their opinion too. If you don't have one of those maybe Walmart?
