Camera Recommendations

I really want to get a nice camera once LO gets here. I do have a smart phone that takes okay pictures but I feel like I don't take as many pictures or that I really save them elsewhere or print them off from my phone. It has been years since I bought a camera and need all the help I can get.

So basically, I'm clueless. I want a nice camera (preferably one I can change lenses on if needed or upgrade when i'm able) and would like to spend around $500, maybe a little more if I find out that won't be enough for what I want.

Thanks for the input!

Re: Camera Recommendations

  • If you can wait, there are some smokin deals around Black Friday/Christmas on the older models. I got DH a DSL last year, and it was suuuuuch a good price.

  • I got a nice Nikon DSL on Groupon, factory refurbished
  • @SpaceBurger That's a good idea! I may scope out some Black Friday deals.

  • I have the Nikon D3200. I have had it for several years now and it's still a fantastic camera for me. My SIL got the same one when she had her son. It's a good starter camera if you're not familiar with DSLR and you really don't have to know a ton. There's lots of good photography blogs and such out there for help too!

  • I've had a few different brands over the years and I love Canon. You really can't go wrong with any of them.  :)

We are looking at a refurbished Nikon D3300 (24.2 MP) package on Amazon. It runs about $469 and comes with everything you need. It has very good reviews for an entry-level DSLR.

  • I've got a sony alpha 5000 mirrorless that I love.
Mirrorless cameras are right up there with the dslrs except they're a lot smaller which I really like and the one I have is very user friendly. Check out b&h photography online. They have really good prices and sometimes include extras with your purchase. I got a free camera bag, battery and sd card with my camera
  • I love the Canon Rebel Series! I have the t5 at home... We use Nikon when I worked at a studio but I like Canon better for personal use!

I got the same one and I love it!!! It's small enough to take traveling!
  • I would definitely say the Nikon D3300. If you can wait until the holiday season, I know they had a crazy good deal at SAMS club last year for a whole bundle.
