cesarean section

I went to my Dr today and was told that due to a pre-existing condition I'll Most likely have to have a C-section. I'm a FTM and was just wondering if anyone else has gotten this news and how did you take it? STM I'd love some input and advice on what to expect

Re: cesarean section

  • Planned CS generally aren't too bad. You go in get the spinal, are completely prepared, are less likely to have emergencies, and *typically* have a shorted time from admission to baby. I had an emergent one, and it wasn't bad compared to stories from others. I had a wonderful surgeon who made sure that I was properly closed, so my scar is really small and hasn't ever bothered me. I didn't have any problems with being able to BF, or bond with LO.

  • I had an emergency c-section for my 1st born, and have a planned c-section this time. It wasn't too bad, really. The whole procedure took like 20 minutes, and like the pp I had no issues with bonding and breastfeeding right away. I wouldn't be too worried about the actual surgery. The worst part is when they push on your stomach a million times after the c-section. Fun times :)

  • Lurking from December, but I'm in a similar situation. I'm also a FTM and due to a myomectomy last summer I'll need a c section as well. Personally I was a little relieved. I know it's major surgery, but I've had surgery before and I know I can handle it. Plus I have quite a few friends who have had scheduled c sections for various reasons and they've all been really happy with it.

Check out the policies for your hospital regarding the operation. The hospital that I'll be delivering at gives you immediate skin to skin time, and the baby can stay with you, your spouse, or in a bassinet by your head for the remainder of the surgery. The baby also comes with you to recovery if you want them to.
  • I've had one emergency and two planned, and good experiences with all. I won't worry too much. I'd look into a binder to help with recovery afterwards, and just keep in mind they don't want you lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk for the first few weeks. Just listen to your body about when you need help or rest.  I'll be starting a c-section check-in in a few weeks for board, just waiting until we're all a bit closer to delivery.
  • Thank you ladies so much!!! I don't know anyone who's ever had one so I was just a little overwhelmed when my Dr told me. You guys have mad me feel much better about the situation!
