IUI 4 hours post trigger?

So... This seems strange and I wanted to see if others see it the same way. I am going for my 3rd IUI this week. yesterday, cd11 I had 6 follicles ranging from 14-18 (maybe 19). I am going in tomorrow morning around 7 am for another scan. Dr. said if one gets to 21 we will trigger. Here's where it gets weird. The office is closed on the weekends, and I'm planning on using frozen sperm, so I figure I'll do insem at home on sat and sun. (My doc. is ok with at home insem). BUT the nurse said to bring the triggers shot so that I trigger at the 7 am appointment and come back at 11 am the same day for insemination. What?!?! She said they have to have all the IUIs done before noon tomorrow. Is it just me, or doesn't it seem like a waste of $$$ to pay for them to do the insem 4 hours past trigger?
TIA for your thoughts

Re: IUI 4 hours post trigger?

  • You should ovulate 24-36 hours post-trigger. Doing the IUI so soon after trigger is unusual, but the sperm can survival inside you for up to 5 days so they will just be there waiting for the egg to come along, which should be the next day.

  • I don't think it would hurt to do the IUI before ovulation, as PP said the sperm can stay alive for a while so it'll be ready and waiting, and the TI at home will really make sure there's plenty of swimmers to meet the egg. Best of luck to you.
  • I read one study where people had more success triggering and doing the IUI at the same time, rather than triggering and waiting a day for the IUI.

You want the swimmers all the way up in there, ready for it, when you ovulate.  So it should work fine.
