Work morning routines

edited August 2016 in June 2016 Moms
Hi ladies! As the working moms start heading back to work, I thought it'd be helpful to hear everyone's routines in the morning and getting out of the house. My husband and I will both be leaving the house at the same time so I know we will have to take turns watching LO and getting ready in the morning. I'm also breastfeeding. We are both teachers so I'm thinking we will pack our lunches, pick out what to wear for the next day, and our bags the night before to help free up our morning time.
How does everyone else manage/plan to get to work on time while making sure your LO is set for the day without you?

Re: Work morning routines

  • DD is 2 and it depends on when she wakes up so my morning routine changes slightly. I try to get up at 6:15 so I can get ready and pump. I will get DD a cup of milk and have her lay down while I get ready. Once I'll done pumping and finished getting ready, I'll get DS up and changed and head downstairs for breakfast and out the door. My goal is to leave the house at 7:10. I also shower at night so that makes it easier in the morning too.

  • I wake up at 5 pump, feed baby, get in shower, make myself beautiful (lol) then get baby ready for the day with maybe a diaper change, if daddy didn't already do it, new clothes and get him settled before I leave for the day.  I would like to leave by 7:15 or earlier, but actually have only accomplished that once in 2.5 weeks. I am working to perfect this still.  I get all of the bottles ready the night before...I probably should shower the night before as well and know what I am going to wear, but right now my clothes depress me even though the fit, it just isn't the same, so that is not happening.  To sum up my rambling...It is all currently a "Work in Progress".
  • My husband leaves at 6am so I'm on my own in the mornings. I basically get everything ready/packed the night before, and get up an hour before I anticipate the baby getting up so I can be ready and just get her and my 5 yo ready and spend time with them until it's time to go.
  • My day is a little different because I am switching off with husband- he works day and I go in the evening. I've been trying to work on timing the breastfeeding more than anything. It takes me a half hour to get to work, so I try to start feeding her 45 minutes to an hour before I walk out the door. That means that right after the feed before the last feed before i leave (if that makes sense) I jump in the shower and get half of me dressed (point in putting a top on yet). That lets my hair mostly dry while I get some stuff picked up, change her, etc. Feed her for the last time and then husband gets home and he burps and changes her while I finish getting ready to go.

Some days I have a client at 4, which means she hears to work with me, we get there at 3, and I feed her there and then my husband comes and picks her up at my office.

Mostly I worry about feeding her as close to when I have to leave since she still refuses bottles most of the time. Then as soon as I get home I feed her again. If we can get her to start taking bottles I will probably keep a similar schedule but worry about it less. And once she can take a bottle she will have some kind of childcare for part of the day time so I can pick up more hours at work.
