Anyone have experience tandem wearing with twins? I joined a tandem FB group but would always love more advice!
I bought a solly because I'm in love with them, I know I can only tandem wear them for a little while in that. Looking at wovens and hybrids and ring slings but woahhhhh there's so much to choose from.
Anyone use Action Baby Carriers?
I know a few moms of twins in my local babywearing chapter who love their twinge carrier.
FTM here.I have been really interested in the k'tan since it seems more beginner friendly than the Moby. All the wrapping of a Moby kind of intimidates me. My husband desperately wants the structured "utility" carrier put out by a company called Mission Critical. Anyone have advice on either of these?
A friend of mine hated her k'tan because she felt it wasnt as secure as she would have liked. The Moby isn't as difficult as it seems and YouTube has some great instructional videos.
@TinaBelcher I am planning on getting a Twingaroo. I also plan on wearing them in my moby while they are still little, although I know it won't last too long. I want to be able to tandem wear them but also be able to split them up so DH and I can each carry one. I found a blog post that reviewed a few different types of tandem wearing with twins. I'll try to find it and post the link for you. I love/loved wear DS and want to be able to do so with these two.
@underthesea thanks for the mention of the lillebaby, I had never heard of it! I love that it has the mesh zip option for warmer weather in the summer and the reviews all say how comfortable it is, I have now switched from the Boba carrier to the Lillebaby, thank you!
@BriannaE129129 Solly baby wraps come in lighter weight material too but I don't know how how they compare to the lillebaby. I'd actually never heard of lillebaby until this thread! I have a boba but it's definitely hot if you're wearing it a long time or in the heat
I have a boba that I used for the first six months or so with my son. We live in the UK, so it rarely gets warm here so that wasn't a problem for us, and the boba seriously saved my sanity on many occasions. I frequently teach my friends who are expecting how to use it. Just the other day, a pregnant friend was asking about it so I demonstrated and popped another friend's six-month-old in there, and she immediately laid her head on my chest and started to doze off! I was able to carry my son in it on long walks, while eating at restaurants, grocery shopping, etc. My back never hurt and actually felt a lot better than just holding him in my arms.
I just wanted to jump back in to say that I sent a couple of links to DH with some different brands to look at today, and he's absolutely hooked now with baby wearing- asking all sorts of questions, sending me new links, asking if such-and-such a carrier keeps baby in the proper position. So thank you everyone for all of the valuable information! We'll definitely be doing lots of trying on/shopping when we're back in the States in September
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my Moby and I have used it with 2/3 of my children. I live in FL and I never found it to be hot or uncomfortable. It was my saving grace.
@ceclarlinetlo the k'tan is anoher good option but I definitely recommend double checking the size options. They need to be fit correctly to be safe and snug. If you aren't sure go down a size to be safer.
@aels12 I got by with a skip hop messenger bag style. I didn't really use it too much while I was wearing her- put it in the grocery cart when shopping, hubby carried it, etc. when my DD got older and heavier it was too much so i bought a jujube be quick little zipper pouch to put my wallet, phone, a diaper, wipes, a snack and then clip it to my belt loop or the carrier itself. I would leave the big diaper bag in the car. I have also used a backpack for the zoo or traveling and this time around I'm looking into getting a backpack diaper bag like the jujube bff because I will need my hands free with a toddler and a newborn.
@aels12 I had a messanger style bag too, I usually just wore it right over the top of her, or like @underthesea said it went in the cart or whatever. But I would think a backpack style bag would be a good way around that.
I will start with a beco Gemini and then switch to a baby hawk oh snap or Tula that my sister might give me. I loved th Gemini and oh snap with my last child and can't wait to wear this little guy.
This may be a dumb question, but is there a style of carrier that people with bigger boobs should steer towards? I'm really interested in wearing baby as much as possible since I live in a city and public transportation always looks like such a hassle with the big prams here, but I'm mildly concerned my G/H's (which will only get bigger) will impact baby's position.
I'm an I/J so have some experience with carriers to share with you. I was too lazy to try a wrap but purchased an ErgoBaby Original with infant insert when he was maybe 2 months old. He LOVES being in a carrier and still asks for it at 2.5. The carrier itself wasn't that comfortable for me but it was fine and worked exactly like I needed it to. I have a bad back (as with most people with heavy chests) but he was so little it didn't really hurt me.
Nursing while in a carrier isn't impossible but it is HILARIOUS... I sure am envious of the ladies that can nurse while not having to mess with their chest as much to do so. I remember walking the aisles of JoAnn Fabrics uncontrollably laughing at myself like some crazy person because I managed to breastfeed but it was totally not picturesque, it was awkward and hilarious... I may have sent a selfie to my husband to show him.
When my son was able to wear a size 2T pants, I was able to sell the carrier for half my purchase price on Facebook and put that toward a Toddler Tula, which I think is significantly more comfortable for both of us, I believe.
i want to carry this one as a newborn so may need to venture into wrap territory but I don't know if I have the patience for that.
my community has a baby carrier group that occaisionally has meet ups where everyone brings their carriers for people to try if they are interested. I may reach out to them for support.
Someone told me today babies aren't supposed to wear socks or footed clothes when swaddled or in carry wraps - this is the first time I've heard that - is this true? I thought babies feet should basically always be covered so they don't get cold?

As long as the footies aren't pulled too tight it's fine. The worry is that their circulation might be cut off. Socks are fine because it's not one piece of clothing being pulled up from the crotch. I've never had an issue but I have heard people warn about the footies.

H and I were actually just debating between trying the ErgoBaby and the Tula, and based on your experience we'll probably go with the Tula, so thanks!!! I'm toying with the idea of getting a wrap too, but I would want to play with it in a store to practice tying before I actually invested.
I gave up on the idea of breastfeeding with a carrier on almost immediately after watching some videos. I don't think my chest is up for the boob-gymnastics it would take to get into a position even remotely suitable for breastfeeding.
Just a note on Tulas, there is a cult following of them. It's a little weird. I was wearing on vacation and hit up a local fair (In a relatively large city) and thought I was hearing things... I kept hearing people yell, "Tula in the wild!!" but just shrugged it off. I told a friend later and they laughed at me. Apparently, I was supposed to yell back, "caw caw!"
Hilarious. I don't know if I could ever do that...
@Wholesome people can get pretty into babywearing. I'm in a few buy sell trade groups and some people have huge stashes of like 30+ wraps. I just can't imagine. So expensive!
Loved the maya wrap for newborn and ergo for when they got a bit bigger. DS2 will be 2 next month and I just stopped wearing him bc it got uncomfortabe (I'm out of breath all the time) lol
@Wholesome The whole Tula thing caused quite the drama in a local babywearing group I follow on facebook a while back. I learned all about the calling out of things at that point and had the same thoughts, I could never yell that out
I have one carrier (Action Baby Carrier), would like to get a second that has a little more long term support but it was great for my use, since I wasn't sure how much I'd use it. I follow some BST groups and I just have trouble spending that amount of money. However, the same goes for strollers and if you are going to always use your carrier then you probably save some money in comparison to some of the strollers out there.
@carly79 how do you like your ABC? Are you a Michigander? A sister of a friend owns ABC/ makes all of those carriers! We're getting 2 but I so rarely see people mention them (supposedly they're very similar to Tulas without the cost + cult following?)
@ceclarlinetlo I had never heard the thing about footies or socks in a carrier, and I couldn't tell you if my DD ever wore any in her wrap because she was a dead of summer baby and was barefoot all the time. But I guess I could see how it could cause a problem with circulation? But as far as our wrap carrier went her feet were covered by the carrier so it probably wouldn't have hurt for her to be barefoot cause her feet were still warm in there.
@TinaBelcher I like it for what I used it for. The leg areas don't seem to have as much padding as some of the more expensive carriers I've seen but I've really never tried anything else. My sister has a toddler Kinderpack and I would love to get a standard one for this baby, I just have trouble with the cost. I am hoping to carry more with this baby since I have another one running around now. The ABC is really a good SSC though and very cost effective. Especially for an initial carrier while you figure out how much wearing you are going to do. Plus the designs are awesome. I am from Iowa and we have a locally owned baby store that tries to support local small businesses so that's where I found it.
I'm thinking of making my own Moby wrap this time around. I've always been interested in trying one, but they are so expensive! 5yds of a stretchy cotton cut in half and you have 2 wraps!
Is the infant insert on the Ergo 360 an issue/that big of a deal? I see that the Lillebaby doesn't require an infant insert and someone also mentioned it on here. For those that have the Lillebaby, is the storage pocket on that useful or not really?
Also, this is all very new to me, so I would appreciate some feedback on the seated position in the Lillebaby vs. the Ergo 360. From a few of the reviews I read, the reviewers made it seem like that seated position in the Ergo was technically better than in the Lillebaby. Is that true?
@LoneStar21416 I'm not sure about the positioning for ergo vs. lillebaby But, you do need some sort of insert with the ergo and a newborn. We bought the actual ergo one and loved it. The important part of it is the pillow that the newborn sits on. I have had friends who have rolled receiving blankets and used those instead with no problem. However, IMO the infant insert is not very pricey when you are looking at overall cost and much more simple than trying to "make do" with something else.
@LoneStar21416 I have a lillebaby and a regular ergo. The lillebaby's storage pocket can fit a phone, keys- same as they ergo. I use a little clutch that can hook on to the belt loop for storage. It can fit a diaper and wipes, snacks, wallet, phone. As far as seating positions, I can't speak for the ergo 360. Lillebaby you can wear baby facing you or facing out, on the hip and on your back. The lillebaby doesn't need an infant insert because the seat adjusts for infants. You just snap it to make it a narrow seat. I didn't have my lillebaby until my DD was 18 months but I plan to wear the new baby in the lillebaby or another wrap right away.
Thanks @scgirl6113 and @underthesea. Much appreciated. I'm finding this to be slightly overwhelming! My husband is really interested in baby wearing as well, so we're trying to decide what makes the most sense. I really like the moby in theory, and would like to use a wrap like that to begin with, but am intimidated. And I absolutely want a structured carrier as well because I know that is more in line with what my husband wants, and will fit our needs better going
Does anyone have any experience with the Tula infant insert? I'm wondering if we should go that route to use the carrier right away, or if we should use some type of wrap instead.
@LoneStar21416. It can be super overwhelming. There are several structured carriers that are on par with each other and it comes down to personal preference. Do you have a local babywearing international chapter? They have meetings where you can try on a variety of wraps and carriers to find what is most comfortable for you as well as help you with wrapping. I used a boba wrap (like a moby) with my daughter for the first few months and loved it. It's not hard to get the hang of. I watched one you tube video and practiced with a stuffed animal before she got here and was totally fine. I would often prewrap it at home before going to the grocery store and then just pop her in so I didn't have to stand in the parking lot wrapping, especially in the rain.
Wow! So much information here, I love it! With both my DD's, I used a K'tan (but I second the comments on trying one out first and making sure you get the right size) for when they were small (until about 3-3.5 months) and then switched to the 4-way ergo, which I really like. I have the infant insert for it, but it got hot, as both of my other babies were summer babies. DH really likes to carry in the Ergo. He likes the structure.
@lindsladle15 I've been looking at the ktan to use while baby is a newborn before switching to my ergo. Do you remember how big your babies were before you switched to the ergo? I'm trying to decide if I should get it or just go straight to the ergo.
Also a questions for those that use the ergo 360. Did you use the forward facing often? I just have the regular one but was thinking of getting the 360. Not sure if it is worth it though.
@nolemomma14 I have used forward, front, and back wearing of my ergo. I like the forward facing a lot and so have my girls. As far as the k'tan, my first baby was 6lbs even when born, but I didn't have the K'tan until she was a couple months old. My second was 7lb 5oz and I started using it pretty much right away. I used it with both girls until they started to get pretty wiggly, which was about the 3/3.5 month mark. They were probably around 12 - 13 lbs (total guess....I can't remember, but they weren't big babies) but I don't think their size mattered as much as their general moving around-ness
