Re: Sharing the news?
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? Since this is our second, we will be more casual about it. It will probably be through text message or facetime since our families live out of town.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? I've told my closest friends already, but the rest of the world will be through some kind of goofy announcement on facebook. I just bought a "Pumpkin Smuggler" tshirt from zulily today and am thinking about posting a pic of me wearing it. Other than that, I'm not very creative.
(snagged from my TTGP grad post) I didn't tell him in the morning of the +test because I knew he wouldn't have been able to focus on work and he has a bunch of big projects he's on right now. He speaks Mandarin and I've always tried to learn a bit myself. After work, we snuggled on the couch:
"Hey, I found a new Mandarin app and have been practicing, want to hear? Don't make fun of my pronunciation."
"Sure!"
"[Mandarin] You are very smart"
"[English] It's pronounced with a soft C, not a hard one. Good job though!"
"[M] You are very funny"
"[M] Thank you! [E] What else do you have?"
"[M] You are handsome"
"[M] And you are pretty"
"[M] You are a father"
"[E] I am a... brother?"
"[E] No... [M] father."
"[E] You're trying to say brother?"
"[E] Augh, no. Here, how about... [M] We have a baby."
"[E] We... want a baby?"
"[E] Wrong context of the word." (the word for "have" in Mandarin is also used as "want", like, "I'll have the hamburger" in English)
"....[E] ARE YOU SERIOUS!? I thought you just learned the wrong word for brother!"
Commence a million hugs and smooches. He's over the moon, as am I.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
For both of our folks, we're going to tell prior to the end of the first trimester. Because his folks live further away and can't visit as much, I'm being stubborn and saying that he gets to tell them first and pick the how and when. We've already got a trip planned to visit in the beginning of September, so we'll tell them in person then (even if we don't yet have an ultrasound). For my mom & dad, I haven't quite figured it out. My mom, sister, and I all got shadowbox frames from IKEA in the spring and were going to do a "cuteness" competition to see who made the best shadowbox, so I might drop the ultrasound into mine and see if they're still up for the challenge, only to unveil the OBVIOUS WINNER.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
I've got a couple of different groups.
We have one pair that are basically heterosexual life partners that we sort of dogshare with (long story). We always joke around on who is the "best mom ever" of the dogs. Basically immediately after we tell both folks, I'm going to use a ceramic marker to make them personalized mugs that say "Best Aunt Ever" and see how long it takes them to figure it out.
My BFF/roommate is, I think, getting a personalized mug that says, "Only the best friends become fairy godmothers" and some whimsical drawings. Or something along those lines.
My Girl Scout troop is getting an ultrasound pic in our group chat with "Future Scout" on it, they'll figure it out pretty quick haha.
His friends are probably getting a group chat message a week before we do a public announcement because he's not as sentimental with them.
When we hit 2nd tri, we'll announce publicly. I think I'm going to draw a four panel comic to announce it (our wedding was comic book themed), which will be posted here of course.

Did you surprise your SO with the BFP? And if so how?
It was sort of awkward. I didn't tell him that morning but then we were going camping with friends and I was nearly bursting. I gave him a card in the middle of the grocery store.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
I told my mom via text the next day. We told DHs family this weekend. I know it's early.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
I told one of my closest friends 3 days after my BFP because she was in town. I'll call my other best friends around 10 weeks, text other people who should find out from us first around then, and post it on Facebook at 12. The announcement will probably involve books since DH and I love to read. We're going away with my high school friends this weekend, and I'm toying with the idea of telling them because they will just guess behind my back if I don't drink the whole weekend.
DD #2: May 2020
Baby #3: EDD May 2023; MC October 2022
Did you surprise your SO with the BFP? And if so how?
We had our third loss in June, so I wasn't expecting anything last month, but being the crazy that I am I peed on a stick 12dpo and saw a distinct line, no squinter there! I think I said something to the affect of "Oh damn! There's a second line!" and then H said "About time!" and I wanted to kill him for being so freaking insensitive but then I was so happy about the line that I didn't.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
I have a question on this one that I'd like to get public opinion on. I'm going to my brother's wedding on the west coast the first week of September, and then he and his wife are coming out east the last week of September for an informal family reception, at which time I'll be 13 weeks. I was thinking about telling our parents/my brother/his wife while we're out west, and making the public/FB announcement after week 12, but I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to over shadow his wedding reception. Thoughts?
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
I have a few friends that were amazingly supportive through all the TTC things we've been through this past year, and I'll be telling them once we get a heartbeat. I have a close friend's wedding the second week of September, and I haven't decided how I'm handling that yet. My fake drinking skills are going to need improvement.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? I think we decided to tell my mom next week. We bought blocks from the craft store and are going to make her a countdown until her grandbaby is born. It's her first grandchild so I wanted to do something special. We aren't going to tell inlaws until at least after my first appointment because they can't keep their mouths zipped.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? I have a few friends that I plan on telling after my first appointment. One of those friends is also pregnant and I think it will just be so fun to go through this experience together. Our obligatory facebook post won't be well into the second trimester.

How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? We told our parents last night (even though it is very early) because a) we are terrible at keeping secrets and b) we wanted to get more information for our medical history. We are waiting to tell other family members until later.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? I told my best friend when I bought the test and she was the first person we told. And I am so glad we did, it was very helpful to have someone to talk to. Ended up telling another best friend at a wedding this weekend. She is moving to Tokyo in two days and I needed help avoiding the constant alcohol the bride was trying to get me to consume.
nope. I was like, 'Does this look like 2 lines to you?'
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
We were going to throw a big brother shirt on DS and bring him to my inlaws when we were going to visit for my husband's birthday but they were like 'I don't think we're going to celebrate birthdays anymore...' so I dunno. They'll find out when we tell the general public. Haha. Just kidding. We'll probably still do that, just later. We'll send a picture to my parents because they're far away and we can't do it in person. So. That'll be whenever we get together. Which will probably be 10+ weeks at this point.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
Close friends...already have to one. I told her I wouldn't be drinking and when she asked why I told her it wasn't safe during pregnancy. We'll tell the rest of our close friends as we feel like it.
We'll probably just do a Facebook post though. I don't really like being the center of attention so if I can tell people and not be forced to actually interact while they're all gushy, that's my ideal situation. Probably not til the 2nd trimester but I'm bad at keeping happy new (that's my own to tell) secret.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? Probably not until 12 weeks because family is well meaning but don't keep secrets well. My MIL would probably go crazy waiting or post something on Facebook trying to be mysterious and give the whole thing away.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? I've told a couple close friends already who were aware of my journey with my son's traumatic birth and previous miscarriages. DH is supportive but I felt like I needed a couple close females in my corner in case this goes south.
I really wanted to and had an idea (was going to get an IronBaby onsie because he does IronMan triathlons) BUT I couldn't hold back and told him I thought I was pregnant based on my chart (we do NFP/temp) and asked if he'd looked lately. He wasn't convinced but he suggested a couple days later we grab a test when at store. We did it together. I saw the 2nd line instantly but he'd walked away and said we needed to wait 3 minutes. The timer went off, we ran in and saw it and were amazed, kissed, tears in eyes. He cracked open champagne we'd got from our wedding 2 months before and I had a very small glass/sip.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
We plan to share at 12 weeks...8 weeks to go...so hard! Though we don't see his fam much because they live 3 hours away but my fam lives in town. I have some ideas that involved the above IronBaby onesie. Saying "hey, did he show you what I got him from IronMan and pulling out of bag". Maybe same thing with my fam?
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
Same - 12 weeks and a few of our really close friends we'll want to tell in person - doubt we'll do anything special.
As of now I'm unsure of sharing on social media...just worried about making sure all is okay and also we/I know so many people who have miscarried and/or can't get pregnant and that's it's devastating to them to see yet another friend/family member pregnant. I know I was always a tad jealous when I was single even. BUT if we do it will relate to working out I think
For work I never considered doing anything but I saw something recently where there was a box of donuts with a note that said something cute like "So I'm not the only one getting fat" but it wasn't that at all. I have to dig it up. People are ALWAYS bringing in donuts/goodies so this will be great (this is of course after I tell my boss which will prob be this week).
I did not surprise my DH. We've been at this for a while and after a few losses, I really lost interest in testing. At 11DPO I took a dollar store cheapie just for fun and a second line popped up. He was just my confirmation that I wasn't seeing things and that there really was 2 lines.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
After my first u/s at 8 weeks provided there's a heartbeat and everything looks good. My IL live right by my OB and we'll probably tell them the weekend after. My parents live in TN but we are visiting them when I am about 10 weeks and I will tell them then.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
I told one friend just to have as backup in case anything goes wrong. Otherwise, most friends will find out after an announcement online at 12 weeks.

Yes! I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it a full day without telling him, but I knew from our conversations that he *really* wanted to have some sort of special moment. The morning I got my BFP I bought a blank onesie and wrote "Our littlest Longhorn" (we are both University of Texas alumni) on it with a UT logo... I love fabric markers and already had some from hosting friends' baby showers.
The next morning we were getting up early to leave on a weekend trip, so I wrapped the digital test (no disputing the "pregnant" there!) inside the onesie and gave it to him around 6:00 am as his alarm was going off.... because I seriously could.not.wait.another.minute. There were tears and hugs. It was really sweet.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
After our first appointment on 8/25. We will hopefully see my parents the weekend after that and his parents and family Labor Day weekend. I haven't figured out how to share with my parents yet (we will be meeting up to celebrate my dad's birthday, but I don't want to take the attention away from that). We saw my bro and SIL on vacation literally the day I told DH, so we didn't say anything and I'm not sure how we'll tell them yet.
With DH's family we will probably make matching shirts for our 3 young nieces that say "I love my little cousin" (!)
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
Honestly not sure yet. We have some coming into town right around the end of first trimester, so will probably tell them in person and everyone else on the phone before obligatory FB announcement!
Did you surprise your SO with the BFP? And if so how? I received the call when we were all in the living room together. So when the Nurse said it was positive...I was like you mean we are Pregnant...super loud...so I think he got a clue then (along with a friend that was staying at our house for the weekend). We were surprised as I had gotten the Beta to speed up the end of the cycle so I could get going with the next IUI (Number 3).
We got the official this looks likely viable call yesterday so I texted my husband to let him know the news (and to tell him I accidentally let the cat out of the bag to my parents at dinner that night) as he is out of town.
To do something a little special I took a onsie that says Daddy's Fishing Buddy and hung it on the door along with a note saying "I hope baby is better at shutting the door all the way than it's mama." because he always mentions that I leave the door open when I leave for work in the morning. So he should see that when he comes home from being out of town this afternoon.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
I thought I would tell my parents with my brother/sister in law all together but...my sister in law is due in October and we usually go on a family trip in April (this year with them having a new little kiddo we decided FL would be the best bet)...and my Mom and SIL I guess had already been starting to talk about the family trip. So when I went to my parents house for dinner last night my mom said that they were thinking of booking places in FL for April...and I was like well I don't think April is such a good idea "we are due in April". And she was like what? Say that again. And then yelled for my Dad to come into the kitchen. LOL It was actually really cute. You can tell we have been trying to for a long time because she kept asking if I thought I was going to make it to term...I told her I don't know more than anyone else but maybe maybe to hold off on renting lodging in FL for a few more weeks.
Plus I was in the local pharmacy in my small town and had to ask a question that involved me saying I am pregnant 2 times out loud in SMALL TOWN as well as was at the Clinic and Lab in town where they all now know. So better to let family know before they get asked about it out of nowhere.
Trying to decide if we should tell my DH's parents this weekend or hold off till the US. I got his mom a Grandma Rex shirt (they have a running joke about t-rex in the family), and got his dad a lure that says Grandpa's Fishing Lure. So hopefully we can surprise them with that.
I also bought cards that said and the Adventure Begins that I think I am going to send to his sister and to my brother/sil as a fun surprise for them to open. I think we will wait until after the next beta draw.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
2 friends already know...1 was in the room and the other I tell everything to. I am sure I will let my besties know by week 6 if not before though a call or text. We will be doing a FB baby announcement after we get the results back from our ultrasound or if we can hold of by week 12 (I live in a super small town and I am sure word will spread fast!!!.
Thinking maybe to do "We always go on a vacation each year in April as a family. This in April 2017 we will be doing our adventure from home..." and then do a picture of a baby onsie or something..or something along the adventure or vacation theme.

Did you surprise your SO with the BFP? And if so how?
Kind of. On Tuesday I annoyingly said " my period is weird again this month and I'm behind a couple of days" (I had a super weird period two months prior) He was at work last Thursday when I took the test and got a bfp. I waited up for him and said that one of his birthday presents had finally arrived and showed him the test. But he said he kind of thought that's what was going on since I stayed up. (I'll often leave him a little surprise on the pillow or something but I'll be asleep.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
Well our daughter has wanted a sibling for about 2 years now and will ask about it every.single.day. So we wanted her to know first then surprise the family by letting our daughter tell them she'll be a big sister. So that's why I'm so adamant about finding out when I'll have my first US. I'd love my girl to see the baby. We want to tell by 10 weeks, because a) I can't keep my mouth shut and b) I tend to show very early on.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
Our friends are scattered all over the globe (so is a lot of my family). So we are planning on doing a FB post. Ya know your typical pic of the 3 of us or just our daughter with a t-shirt "big sister" or something like that
He didn't know I was testing but I'm pretty sure he saw the box when I came in from work. Sent him and DS outside to play, decided to test even though I know FMU is the best. Those little lines came up very fast and very pink, so I just walked outside and said hey look!
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
We plan on facetiming with his mom tonight and I will probably tell my brother today sometime but I honestly don't plan on telling my mom and dad until closer to going public. They are joy suckers and have made numerous comments about how great DS is and we won't be that lucky again. And oh you know, you still haven't bought a house. And you are a boss now, remember you can't have it all. So yeah, we'll keep this amazing little ball of wonderful to ourselves for now.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
I texted my best friend right away. We have a few more friends we will tell but the majority of people will find out probably via Facebook.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? I will be 11 weeks on DD's 3rd birthday. I am thinking I will buy her a "big sister" shirt and wrap it as a present and then when she is opening gifts she will open that and they will all know. My mom and sister will be in Hawaii until the end of December though. So, I will need to find a fun way to tell them. Skype or maybe even mail them something.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? some will be at the birthday party, so see above. The rest I'm not sure. I will probably make sure a few close friends know and then we will post something on Facebook at the start of October.
DH: 30 year old pneumatic electrical engineer

we had been trying for 22 months so i knew i wanted to do something big, especially since his brother announced two weeks ago that him and his wife are expecting and they had only been trying a couple of months. i had ordered big brother and big sister bandanas for our dogs and had them wearing them when he got home from hanging out with his work friends. i video recorded it so i can watch his reation over and over again. he couldnt believe it at first and then when i showed him the positive digital he started to cry and we hugged and cried together!
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
my mom lived over an hour away from us and she owns her own store so i dont get to see her that often. we are going to tell her tonight over facetime before DH and I go out for a big birthday suprise (today is my birthday!). after dinner we are going to see his parents and brother since its his birthday too. we wrote it in his birthday card that he is a new uncle to be! the other parts of the family we will just call and tell them since they dont live close to us
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
i want to facetime my best friend of 22 years tomorrow when i get out of work, i am so excited to tell her! we will also be taking a weekend to tell our best friends in virginia that we are expecting and ask them to be the godparents (this was planned a long time ago)! everyone else we will tell if they ask or at 12 weeks, whichever comes first
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? Immediately family (parents and my siblings) at 8 weeks. DH's siblings probably shortly after. I don't know how I feel yet about our nieces and nephews knowing yet just because a lot of them are still pretty young and I don't want to have to explain if something happens. We haven't decided how with parents yet, probably either a Big Brother shirt/book for DS. With my sister I want to play a game and have my pregnancy as one of the clues. My brother I will probably tell over the phone because I know him and his wife are struggling with infertility so I don't know how they will respond.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? We'll tell our closest friends right after our 12 week appointment after we hear the heartbeat. Not sure how yet. Then everyone else we will hopefully tell that same week. We have a wedding the week after, so I want to make sure people know by then so that I don't have to feel pressure to "hide it" at the wedding, but I also don't want to steal the thunder of the bride and groom.
I did, but not the way I planned to. I showed him the pregnancy test, because I couldn't keep it to myself.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
My parents knew a week later. Gave them a couple pacifiers and a note that read "The remainder of this gift is backordered until April 2017." We're waiting to tell his parents until Labor Day, as they live out of state, and that's the soonest we can get to them. After that, everyone else is fair game.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
Not nearly soon enough for me. I'd shout it from the rooftops if DH would let me.

Nope, I was so excited and so unsure that I interrupted him in the shower and said, "Do you see two lines here!?"
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
Whenever all of our family ends up in town together (my parents live 5 hours away from us), we are going to have my family + my in-laws over for dinner and give them gifts for supporting us in our foster care journey that will actually be something revealing that we are pregnant (not sure what yet).
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
I already told my two closest friends (so that I can have a support group as I walk through the beginning months) and will probably just do a Facebook announcement after the first tri is over.

Did you surprise your SO with the BFP? And if so how? I tested without him knowing and then that morning after breakfast I brought him the test and said "since it has two lines, it means that I'm pregnant!" And we had done a medicated cycle so he said "whoa it worked?!!??"
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? My sister (who is now 25 weeks pregnant) went through a very similar infertility journey as me so we've discussed treatment and doctors visits together all along the way. When I didn't text her telling her that I got my period, she figured it out haha. But I won't be telling my parents or other siblings until around 9 weeks. I hope to wait even longer to tell my ILs because they are the WORST at keeping secrets... Especially MIL. We'll basically have to tell everyone over FaceTime because we live in FL and our families live in IL.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? Even though a couple close friends knew that we were doing a medicated cycle, I've been avoiding any and all questions because I don't want to tell any friends until closer to the end of the first trimester. We'll be moving from FL to WA at that time so they'll all just find out via FaceTime, too. I don't know if I'm going to even post anything on social media. People can just notice me getting fat haha

I tested 8/1/16 early in the morning because I had to pee at 4:30 in the morning. I shook him and said, "Alex, I'm pregnant" and he was "What". He got up and looked at the test barely awake and "oh, I guess so". I started tearing up saying "I'm pregnant" and later on in the morning he wanted me to test again just so he could be more awake when I did it.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family?
I told a cousin on my dad side immediately because both of us had been sharing our mutual trouble conceiving issues. She's on IVF and I was on my first round of Clomid with my Metformin. I also told my grandma because I sucked at hiding it and since my mom was calling me everyday, I told her because it would be nearly impossible and since I swear every woman in my family is slightly psychic, there was no point in hiding it. Alex is going crazy but he doesn't know I've told them. We plan on sending them an "order confirmation" slip with 2 bibs telling them about the EDD and amount of they should expect with a copy of the ultrasound picture after the 29th.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends?
My one friend who was the Matron of Honor at our wedding knows because I've known her forever and Alex does know about that. He wasn't very happy with me but it is extremely difficult to hide the news. I figure once my in-laws know that it will be all over Facebook and Instagram so they'll make it easier for me.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? I'm having pictures done for my son's 1 st birthday which will put me just in my second tri. So I'm thinking I'll do something fun with that.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? probably the same way.
How and when do you plan to share the news with your family? I'm dying to tell my parents, but H would like to wait until we know there's a heartbeat. We're still working on how to tell everyone.
How and when do you plan to share the news with friends? No surprises planned, we'll tell our closest friends once we know there's a heartbeat, just like family.
