Chiropratic Care

Ok, I feel like this may be a stupid question but I am curious about a couple of things. First of all, I know chiropractic care is safe during pregnancy but starting how early? I go normally to my chiropractor every 6 weeks and want to continue during pregnancy but I didn't know if it was okay to go during first trimester or not. My next regularly scheduled appointment is the 16th of this month but I will be only right at 7 weeks and will have not seen my OB yet so I was going to cancel until I have a chance to visit with her.

Just curious to see what others experiences were. Did you go during pregnancy and if so how early and did you go regularly or just as things were bothering you?

Re: Chiropratic Care

  • I see a chiropractor and plan to continue. I'll tell them I'm pregnant the next time I go in for sure, but the only thing hazardous I foresee could be an x ray. Chiropractic care is excellent for comfort during pregnancy and for optimal fetal positioning. I'll probably ramp up my visits as I get further along since I have an agenda of preventing breech positioning that totally undid my last birth plan. You might ask your chiropractor about their experience with pregnant women.

  • Reminds me I need to make an appointment...long over due. My upper/middle back gets so tight plus having some knee and ankle issues. My chiro treated his pregnant wife, his kids, my gf and her babies/kids and I'm sure much more. I completely trust him. In fact he gives free adjustments if you have your baby there (scary I know but I had another gf whose son was born weird angle and had neck issues/lopsided for months until her chiro bil adjusted him).
  • My chiro adjusts babies/kids for free too! They're super gentle. No ninja neck pops for the little ones.
  • At previous appointments before I got prego I had visited with my chiro about feeling like an idiot with my first pregnancy and not even thinking about going to him. He said he treats pregnant women all the time and it is a tremendous help. I've had several pregnant friends confirm this as well. I didn't have a rough pregnancy last time by any means but definitely the hip pain at the end so I'm excited to see the difference!
Yes, @lovelongdog06, my chiro adjusts babies too and I am def going to do that! I didn't know it with my son but I think it would have helped his fussiness tremendously!

  • You should go! Regular chiropractic adjustments help tremendously throughout your pregnancy. No risk in going too early! I worked in the field before DS was born and we had 4-5 week pregnant ladies come in, I got adjusted probably 5 times during my first trimester with my last pregnancy. ( my kid turned out great! Lol)
  • I actually just called one today that appears to be on my insurance plan (hooray!).  I've been 8-10 times in my life when I was dealing with back pain and foot issues, but not regularly and not in the last 18 months or so.  Hoping I can make it work!
