Good morning!!
So DH and I are considering making one last trip up to our cabin in NY over Labor Day weekend with my family. I'll be 36 weeks along at that point (1st pg) and I know it isn't recommended to travel for that long or that far away from home so close to my due date, but we are only slightly entertaining the idea of the trip at this point, really. The trip is usually 8 hours with traffic and gas/potty stops, and we would be up there for 3, maybe 4 days. My question is to mommies that may have done a long distance car trip like that late into their pregnancies in the past- what would your advice be to someone considering a long distance trip? Would you do a long trip again after experiencing your first? I know we would need to stop more frequently than we normally would to get out and stretch, and there is a hospital within 20 minutes of our cabin just in case anything happened while we were gone, and we would absolutely not go if my OB said that anything looked slightly questionable at my appt the day before we'd be leaving. Just looking for anyone else that may have done something like this with a past pregnancy

Thanks!!
Re: 8 hr car ride?
It's really up to you if you feel like you'll be comfortable enough and your doc gives you the okay. 8 hours in the car sounds like my personal hell right now.
I just did a 10 hour with stops drive a week ago (31 weeks). I was not comfortable but not too bad. BUT the next couple days I was incredibly sore and my hip killed just about to the point of tears. We stopped a lot for bathroom breaks but I never pushed myself to walk each time.
-Your doctors recommendation
-Are you comfortable with the hospital (do you know anyone who has delivered there? Read any reviews online?)
- Are you comfortable driving back potentially post partum with a newborn? (This will turn an 8 hour drive into a 10 hour drive with ease.)
-Would you be able to stay in the are in the case that you gave birth and for some reason you or the child require a longer than typical hospital stay?
- Will the people you expect to see in the hospital be available.
-Are you aware of hospitals along the travel route. (Don't want to get half way there and then have an emergency between point A and point B.)
-Are you comfortable enough with going that you will enjoy yourself instead of spending time being anxious about going into labor (not much point in going if you're going to spend the whole time wringing your hands.)
Basically I think you should assume for the moment that you will have the baby over that time and plan for/consider that. If you feel prepared for and comfortable with that, then go ahead. (I wouldn't, personally, but I would not enjoy myself because I would be too anxious.)
