Infertility

Ohss

I had my ER on Wed and they retrieved 43 eggs. Because of the large number, I'm now dealing with ohss. I've been pretty much out of commission since Wednesday. I've been drinking Gatorade and V8, eating lots of protein and taking an Rx my RE prescribed.

Anyone else go through this?  I feel terrible and my stomach is huge!  My RE said this was expected due to the large number of eggs, but I was not ready for the pain, cramps and general feeling of being extremely uncomfortable.

Any advice?

I'm sorry you are hurting.  I have nothing useful to contribute since I'm on the other end as far as number of eggs. Just wanted to say I'm thinking about you.

I had 32 eggs and had OHSS. I remember feeling see full for about 2 weeks. Chicken soup helped, but I did not turn the corner until I had extra fluid drained. If you have trouble taking a deep breath, call your doctor ASAP. I called mine daily until we drained me.

  • Thanks for the well wishes @kp214 and @srh18

@cmm012 thanks for the soup idea. I did eat it last night, but I feel like I'm so full I don't want to eat. But, this morning I am down half an inch around my stomach and down a pound too. Yesterday, at times it was hard to breathe, but today seems to be a bit easier. So hopefully I'm on the right path...fingers crossed.
  • I was border line with gaining just under 5 lbs. I drank my weight in gaterade! I think by the 3rd or 4th day I was feeling like had lost all the bloat and weight. Good luck, I'm sorry you are having to go through this!
I also did like minestrone soup that I think was pretty salty!
  • I have PCOS and had 46 eggs retrieved. I had moderate OHSS. I took the require medication and tried to drink at least 100 ozs of Gatorade. I was sooo nauseous, which was my biggest side effect. I asked the doctor for anti-nausea meds which helped tremendously. Hang in there. I felt much better after about 5 days.

  • Thanks @Sunflower5678 and @Christianner. I've been trying Gatorade but feel SO full that I am struggling to get anything down.  I had an appointment with my RE this am and I have fluid filling my abdomen and into my left lung. So I went to the ER to get IV fluids and protein to try and combat it. I'll head back to my RE tomorrow again to check in with her and hope things turn around.
  • Oh, I am sad to read this @jodes727.  I hope things turn around very soon for you.

    FET 2: 11/15/16 transferred 1 CP again!
    FET 3: TBD

  • Thanks @bells52000. I'm just getting a bit scared/nervous now. I've gained even more weight and I'm not feeling much better. I've called my RE and now I'm just waiting for a call back.
  • Looks like they are going to aspirate me. Hopefully this is the procedure that will help me. Just waiting on a call back from radiology for my appointment time. What a ride!!
  • @jodes727 - I've heard others say that often once you've been aspirated, often you'll start feeling a lot better Hope you recover quickly!
  • Thanks @caseyw8784, hoping that's the same for me!  My stomach looks like I am 6 months pregnant, kind of a mean trick!
  • You will feel 100 times better after they drain you. Fluid leaking into the lung cavity is not good at all. They should not have waited that long to aspirate.

@jodes727 I would keep up the fluids and protein for a few more days.  Monitor your weight if it starts going down.  Sooooooo glad you are feeling better.
