Bedtime

After discussing bedtimes with a couple of other moms from my church tonight, I realized there is quite range in the times our LOs are going to bed! One friend's 4 month old goes down at 9-9:30, another's goes down at 8. Mine (14 weeks) cannot stay up past 6:30! The other ladies were shocked by how early he goes down. He wakes up from his last nap at 4:30-5 and his waketime is about 90 minutes, hence 6:30 bedtime. It works well for us though, and it keeps LO happy!
Now I'm curious.
What's your baby's bedtime?

Re: Bedtime

  • Midnight LOL

My husband gets out of work at 10pm, so dinner in our household has always been at 10:30 and bedtime has always been very late. Currently LO takes a morning nap, and an evening nap until 7, then he has his bathtime and stays up playing with me until my husband comes home so he still gets to see him every day.

I know once he goes to any kind of school or daycare and needs to wake up on a schedule, he will have to say goodbye to his late nights with Dad. But this is what works for us now, since I work from home and can sleep in with him.

  • 7:30 to 8:30. I honestly don't have a reason for it. It just seems to work best for us.
  • We start trying to get him down around 8:30-9, but he usually doesn't go to sleep and stay asleep until 11ish. He hates sleeping and fights it so hard!

  • Usual bedtime is between 7:30-8 and we usually start preparing for bed (bath, pyjamas, etc.) at 7. We have been going to bed 9ish these days because we're on vacation. I try to make sure to get an extra nap in or else there will be a meltdown in the eve.

  • 10-11 depends on when I get off. I usually  get off at 10 and get home change him and put down for the night
  • Around 8 recently which works fine with our early morning scheduleds since he's been sleeping 7 hours
  • Our teenager over here loves staying up late (goes to sleep for the night between 10-10:30) and then wakes up between 6-7 a.m. to eat and then goes back to sleep and sleeps until 10 a.m.  Despite trying to get her down earlier she has a strong FOMO.
  • Baby bedtime for us is 9 & wake up is 6:30-7:00.

    Same!
  • I think he'd go down at 6:30/7 if the other 3 kids weren't around, but lately it's been around 8. He's up around 6:30/7, just like our other kids, and wakes once or twice to nurse at night.

  • DD goes to bed typically after her end of the day feed. Depending on our schedule for the day, that ends up being between 8 and 9/9:30. We have never really had a hard, fast bedtime for her, but she also is an amazing sleeper, so we just kind of roll with it.
  • We have been traveling and she was a newborn so she would sleep any where anytime. Now we are trying to start a routine. My husband gets home from work around 6, he plays with her for a few minutes then he does bath with her and we read books before putting her down around 7/7:30. She always seems so tired but some days takes 30+ minutes to fall asleep. For her naps during the day I put her down and she's out in 5 minutes. So I think 7:30 might be too late for her and she's over tired. So we are trying to do a little early and still have time with dad. Luckily he only works 3 or 4 days a week so he can get good time with her on his days off. We've decided her sleep is more important than getting more cranky time with him in the evenings.

If I dream feed her around 10 she will usually sleep until between 5 and 6. If I skip the dream feed (because sometimes she is just too asleep!) then she will wake up around 3 or 4 to eat and go back to sleep until 5 or 6.

When she gets up around 5 or 6 she's usually up for an hour or so and then sleeps again for a couple of hours.
  • Start bath around 8 or 9, then bottle or boob and down after that. She sleeps until 630 7ish
  • 11:30.  If I put her down any earlier and she'll wake right back up.  She snoozes and nurses all evening while we watch TV.  Then, we go into our room around 10-10:30 to do massage/nurse/read/snuggle.  She falls asleep right away, but I can't put her down before 11:15.  She wakes up with this wide awake look that says, "Hi Mommy!!"

  • Normally bedtime is between 7-8 and gets up between 5-6. That seems to be the only consistent sleep patterns we have bc naps are all over the place

My LO goes down between 6:30 & 7. Keeping him up longer causes screaming episodes. He sleeps until 6:30/7am.

  • Bedtime for the night around 715-8, wake up for bottle around 3-4am, up for the day around 7am.
  • We start bath at 615-630 depending on when we finish dinner. Then I do lotion, pjs and nurse to sleep. He's usually out by 7. While I'm putting Thomas down, DH gives DD a bath, brushes teeth and hair, gets pjs on then I sing to her and tuck her in by 730. We leave the house in the morning during the week at 645 so the kiddos go to bed on the earlier side.
  • We usually start the routine between 7 & 7:30 - closer to 7 if it's a bath night. We'll do bath, lotion, diaper, pj's, bottle, then read a book while rocking him in his room. He's usually asleep around 8. He was sleeping until 4:30-6, but he stayed with his grandparents Saturday night and it has totally thrown off his routine. I'm not sure if it's because he was somewhere unfamiliar or if it's the 4 month sleep regression a couple of weeks early, but last night he woke up at 11, 11:30, 3:30, and 4:50. This momma is exhausted today!
  • Last feeding around 915 and falls asleep. In her RnP by 10. STTN until about 630-7.

This nonsense is happening in our house this week and I am TIRED. DD went from sleeping from about 9p-5a every night and taking 3 regular naps (45 min-ish, 1 hour-ish, then 2+ hours) to waking up 3-4 times a night AND NOT NAPPING.

I am losing my mind over here. Thankfully, she slept pretty well last night. But damn.
  • @sarahufl last night was better for us,too. Only one wake up, but Callen is not a good napper. He probably napped for about 35 minutes yesterday.

Hope your little one starts sleeping again asap!
  • My 4-month old goes to bed between 6:30 and 8pm; usually around 7-7:30 pm. He sleeps until 5-6 am the next morning.
  • We start bedtime around 7/7:30 and B is typically down for the night by 8:30. She was sleeping till 6/6:30 but the past week she's been waking up at 3 on the dot to nurse but falls right back to sleep.
  • My 4-month old goes to bed between 6:30 and 8pm; usually around 7-7:30 pm. He sleeps until 5-6 am the next morning.
  • I'm so jealous of all of you with babies that STTN!

Napping is a crapshoot. Some days she naps in her swing. Other days I have to help her to sleep by putting her in the carrier and vacuuming (my
floors have never been cleaner) or by swaddling and rocking her.

At night I try to give her a bath around 8:30pm, a bottle, and then put her to bed by 10pm. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

She also wakes up to eat at 3:45am, 6:30am, then up for the day around 8-9am.

I give her 4oz at each feeding. I wonder if I should give her a little more at night to see if she'll sleep longer.

I honestly don't think that, at this stage, sleep duration has to do with hunger. My boy goes 10-11h at night and wakes up super happy and smiley without a sign of hunger.
Back when he was still waking up once per night, I tried giving him a "dream feed" a few times in hopes to prolong his sleep. Nope. He always woke up at the usual time despite having a full belly...

Same here. LO is disinterested in eating after sttn. I only give her 3oz in the mornings vs the usual 3.5-4oz bottles through out the day.

Napping is a giant fail for us but I will take it since she is sttn. She is a bit more cranky in the evenings which may be because of the nap regression or leap 4, who knows? It's not too much to deal with though so I don't even worry about it. She is still getting her recommended sleep time.

DD is basically quitting napping, which I hate. We have found that going to the park in the afternoon with friends keeps her from being a total crank. She likes being outside and rolling around.
