Carpet for tummy time?

Hi, all. I'm curious: do all of you put a blanket down for tummy time, or just put baby right on carpet? I've been using a blanket because of floor germs, but LO has a hard time getting traction because the blanket moves and he can grab it and pull it up. How do you do tummy time?

Re: Carpet for tummy time?

  • I usually try to put down a big, stiff quilt and a burp rag near his mouth.  I try to prevent cleaning spit-up off the carpet as much as I can.  But lately he just rolls and rolls until he's on the carpet, anyway, so I don't know why I bother!

  • We have hardwood so we keep him on a blanket in the living room. But with all the movement going on we vetoed that for an area rug. Again we put him on top of a blanket, he would still roll off or jumble it up lol. So I guess it's up to you it maybe helpful to get some movement.
  • I put her on a big blanket, but she's so mobile that she inevitably rolls off onto the carpet. I'm just careful to keep the floor vacuumed every week (most because I shed so bad!) and we don't wear shoes in the house.

  • Blanket or I lay him on his boppy for tummy time. He tries to eat everything that comes close to his mouth.

We still do a blanket, but ya he rolls all over the floor and onto the tile in the kitchen too. We don't wear shoes, have no pets and I vacuumed daily and steam mop at least 3x/week.

Not that I want to vacuum daily but we live way out in the country and even without wearing shoes, sand and dirt gets tracked in regardless and I have to mop so often now cause his new favorite thing is sucking on the tile floor lol guess cause it's cold. It's hilarious!
  • We bought one of those foam puzzle piece play mats and she loves it and has enjoyed tummy time so much more since then. Some times we let her play in just a diaper, especially since its been so hot, and she gets a lot of traction and is able to roll and spin on tummy to get to toys so much easier.
  • I always used a blanket but then I got a tummy time mat that came with a mini pillow and mirror and that helped a lot and once she had great control then I just went back to the blanket. The tummy time mat was like $20 at Target.
