Cutting pacifier nipple

My sil told me that she cut the nipple of her son's pacifier when she wanted him to stop using it. So, we tried it last night and he vomited in the middle of the night. I'm not sure if it was the fact that he is sick (doesn't seem sick) or if he got too much air in his belly. I am wondering if anyone else has done this to the pacifier? Or is cold turkey the way everyone goes?

Re: Cutting pacifier nipple

  • I've also heard about cutting the nipple, just a bit off the tip but we went cold turkey with my first child. He was close to 2 so I just told him the paci went bye bye. I kept telling him that over and over then I got them all out of the house.
  • I would guess maybe too much air. We went cold turkey at about 14 months. He had a Wubbanub that he was attached to so I just cut the paci off the end and let him continue to sleep with the animal. It was actually a much smoother transition than I thought it would be.
