PNP sleep safety

So my LO has just about hit the weight limit for the bassinet (top section) of his Pack n Play. He's been sleeping in it since birth right next to my side of the bed. We are debating on either moving him down into the bottom section to keep him in our bedroom, OR moving him into the crib in his room.

I'd like to keep him next to me longer but the bottom of the PNP makes me nervous because the mesh sides has a 3" bottom section that is solid black fabric. Wouldn't that solid section create a SIDS risk as it doesn't seem breathable? Our guy keeps moving himself to sleep against the side wall of the PNP bassinet, sometimes his face turns to the mesh side. Is it safe for them to sleep up against that fabric?

Or should I just suck it up and move him into his bedroom already?

Also... As a side issue, I gave up trying to get him to nap longer than 45 mins without the auto-rocking of his RNP. Was not happening. If it's rocking he naps 1.5 hours. He sleeps great not rocking at night. Just napping that was sucking... I keep reading about teaching them to nap without rocking but his overall sleep was suffering. Ughhhh!! Guess we'll just hope he doesn't require it at night later.

Re: PNP sleep safety

  • Honestly for your back alone I'd move him to his crib. I would also be worried if he was sleeping right up against the mesh most nights.

With those two options I would bring the entire crib in my room.
  • I was thinking of bringing Ellie's crib into our room too, but she's still sleeping with us (in her snuggle nest of course!).  How big is your LO?
  • He's just over 14lbs and 12 weeks old today. I do have a history of lower back problems so I think I'll just have to bite the bullet and put him in his room. Our bedroom is too small to move his crib into our room. Thanks everyone!
  • Thanks for bringing this up! I actually hadn't bothered to check the weight limit on the bassinet. I was assuming LO would be fine there till 3-4 months. But she's 14lbs already at 10 weeks! I guess I'd better clear all the crap out of her crib. :) I know the pnp won't instantly break the minute she hits 15lbs, but I would have blown right past it if I hadn't thought to check.

Part of me will be happy to move her snuffly, grunty sleeping into another room. Another part of me is a little sad about it. I love rolling over in the morning and having her huge smile be the first thing I see.
