Infertility

Newbie (Child mentioned)

Hi!

My name is Mary and I am new to the world of IVF. We made the decision last week to pursue IVF after I had a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy  which revealed scar tissue, damaged fallopian tubes, benign masses near my ovaries and stage 2 endometriosis.
I have an 18 month old daughter and I never thought it would be harder to conceive the 2nd child.
I'm here to see what to expect from my IVF journey. How long did it take for your doctors to actually start the process? We went a week ago and waiting to hear from the specialist is killing me.

Re: Newbie (Child mentioned)

  • Hi and welcome.  Every office is different and depending on the state you're in that could factor in.  For example, in my state insurance is required to cover IF treatments so you need to await authorizations after the doctor gets all the testing done.  From the time I meet with my specialist to prep for a new IVF cycle (fresh or FET), it takes about 2 months to get going assuming insurance hasn't already authorized within the past 6 months.  First I have to do bloodwork. Then I have to wait for the beginning of my cycle for a specific U/S test that needs to be completed CD 5-12.  Then everything is sent to insurance for approval.  Then I need to wait for the start of my next cycle assuming approval came in before AF showed up.  That is why it takes about 2 months in my case.  I'm currently waiting on AF to get the U/S testing done (blood work was done early July).  That puts me around early/mid Sep for my FET cycle assuming AF doesn't wait too long to arrive!  Damn PCOS.

Again, this could all vary by clinic and protocol.  Best of luck!
