hey ladies! I'm new to temping and am a ltitle confused about what to do this morning. DH woke up at 4:45 wanting to have sex (great!) so I quickly took my temperature before moving and it was 95.13. So much lower than the 97 range I'm usually in. Went back to sleep and took it again when I woke up at 7 and it was 97.68--about .5 higher than usual. Which would you use?? I'm wondering if either is really valid. Thanks so much!
That's quite the difference. I'm definitely not a pro temper by any means, but they say you should get at least 3 hours of sleep before taking your temp. By that advice I'd say the 7am temp might not be too accurate and the 4:45 might be the one I'd use. I'd make note though that it was earlier/later than usual. What time do you usually temp?
You might be way more sensitive to the time you take your temperature, which could be why the 4:45am one was so much lower. I take mine when I wake up, regardless of whether it's 4:20am, 7am, or 9am. I do notice the earlier ones tend to be a bit lower than the later ones, but not as drastic as yours. I would chart your original temperature with the original time and maybe make a note about the early wakeup. Mostly you're looking for overall patterns anyway, so one off temp shouldn't make a huge difference...

I would always go with the first temp after a long stretch of sleep. Try and remember that one temp is not that important, you are really looking for an overall picture/pattern to check for ovulation. One data point isn't going to mess anything up too much.
I agree with pps, pattern is the important thing! Good luck!
